Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER… When Jesus sent out His followers to proclaim the Word of His kingdom to all who would listen, He assured them: “The one who hears you hears Me” (Luke 10:16). Those who responded in faith knew that the kingdom of God had come near to them and that they had been made members of the household of God. Although this sending of the seventy took place some two thousand years ago, the same reality is ours today! Jesus continues to send out His workers in order that they may share His Word and welcome into the household of God all who trust in Him.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

INVOCATION

Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

People: And also with you.

OPENING WORDS                                                                                                                        Psalm 143

Pastor:  Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy!

People:  In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

Pastor:  Enter not into judgment with your servant,

People:  For no one living is righteous before you.

Pastor:  I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done;

People:  I ponder the work of your hands.

Pastor:  Answer me quickly, O Lord!  My spirit fails!

People:  Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit.

Pastor:  Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust!

People:  Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul!

OPENING UP TO GOD AND ONE ANOTHER

Pastor:  God wants us to be certain about our standing before Him.  In today’s passage from Luke, we are reminded of God’s good intentions for us personally: “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven!” This passage does not give us the right to judge others and their standing before God.  During our time of silence today, we reflect on the ways we have fallen short by being too quick to judge others.

~~~~~ Silence ~~~~~
Pastor:  We confess.
People:  Lord, we confess that we have missed the mark.  Wanting us to claim our position before You…we have instead focused on where other people should be in their standing with You.  Too often we have kept track of the shortcomings of others and their faults.  Too often we have forgotten to keep track of the goodness You daily provide right before us.  Give us a new heart today—one that trusts You to be the judge of all living things.
Pastor:  God, our heavenly Creator, hears the prayers of all people and answers those prayers.  Our prayer for forgiveness is answered in the person of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who died for our sin that we might have new life.  The distance between God and ourselves has been brought together by love made perfect in the sacrifice of Jesus.  To those who believe God’s word of truth comes the power to be the people of God.  Praise God for the gift of love to us.
People:  Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE          “Morning Has Broken”
(From the Song Selection Box)
Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praising for the morning!
Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!
Sweet the rain’s new fall sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning,
God’s recreation of the new day!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Pastor:  Let us Pray…….Almighty God, You have built Your Church on the foundations of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. Continue to send Your messengers to preserve Your people in true peace that, by the preaching of Your Word, Your Church may be kept free from all harm and danger; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People:    Amen.
scripture lessons
Old Testament:                 Isaiah 66:10-14
The Lord will extend His peace, and your heart shall rejoice.
10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her; 11 that you may nurse and be satisfied from her consoling breast; that you may drink deeply with delight from her glorious abundance.”
 12 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream; and you shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip, and bounced upon her knees.
 13 As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
 14 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass; and the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall show his indignation against his enemies.
Reader:  This is the Word of the Lord.
People:  Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL:                       Luke 10:1-20
Jesus sends out His messengers of peace to proclaim the kingdom of God.
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.
Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’
And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.
And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.
Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,
11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless, know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’
12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.
16 “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You O Christ.
FOURTH OF JULY PRAYERS
Pastor:  Let us pray for those whole people of God and all people according to their needs.
       Almighty and most holy God, we thank and praise You for all You provide for us freely by Your grace. We are especially thankful for the freedoms we enjoy and celebrate today as we gather to worship You. Lord, in Your mercy,
People:  hear our prayer.
Pastor:  We pray for the leaders of our nation, state, and community. We acknowledge that You have placed them in these positions to govern us and all people of this land. Grant them wisdom and lead them to make decisions that are in line with Your will for all people. Lord, in Your mercy,
People:  hear our prayer.
Pastor:  Amid the thorns of this life, we lean on Your grace, knowing that it is sufficient for us and in our weakness, Your strength shines through. We ask for Your grace and healing for those who grieve. We ask for Your grace and healing for those struggling in body, mind, and spirit, [especially…]. Lord, in Your mercy,
People:  hear our prayer.
Pastor:  We live in a nation and in communities where we are thankful to have brothers and sisters in Christ, yet there are also many who have either disconnected from You and Your Church or who have never known You. Lead us to share Your grace with others. Guide our conversations and grow our relationships with those who do not share the hope we have. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Pastor: No matter where life takes us, we know we are in Your hand. So, we confidently come before You as Your children and place these prayers and all our concerns into Your gracious hands, in Jesus’ name.
People: Amen.
CLOSING HYMN:      “My Country Tis of Thee (America)”
 Text: Samuel F Smith, 1805-1895, Tune: Thesaurus Musicus, London, 1744; © 1978 by Lutheran Church in America The American Lutheran Church, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada, The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
My country ’tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring.
My native country thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with rapture thrills,
Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees,
Sweet freedom’s song.
Let mortal tongues awake,
Let all that breathe partake,
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
Our fathers’ God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom’s holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.
DISMISSAL
Pastor: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
