The Lord’s Prayer: Thy Will Kingdom Come

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER…………. Christians don’t need to wait until they die to start living in the Kingdom of Heaven. Dallas Willard writes, “Living as Jesus’ disciple, I am learning from him how to lead my life in the Kingdom of Heavens everywhere I am, in every activity I engage in. There are three dimensions of this learning. First, I am learning to do the things which Jesus explicitly said to do. It is quite literally nonsense to call Jesus “Lord,” and not do what he said. Second, I am learning to conduct the usual activities of life—in home, school, community, business and government—in the character and power of Christ. Third, I am learning to exercise the power of the kingdom—of Christ in his Word and Spirit—to minister good and defeat evil in all of the connections of earthy existence.” Tonight we are reminded that God’s Kingdom is truly not far away, but close and near to us. We pray that we partner with our whole being in God’s Kingdom activities.

WELCOME

OPENING VERSICLES

Leader: O Lord, open my lips,

People:  and my mouth will declare Your praise.

Leader:  Make haste, O God, to deliver me;

People:  make haste to help me, O Lord.

People: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Praise to You, O Christ, Lamb of our salvation.

OPENING HYMN                 “Jesus Loves Me”

Jesus loves me—this I know, For the Bible tells me so;

 Little ones to Him belong—They are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!  Yes, Jesus loves me!

 Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

.

Jesus loves me—loves me still, Though I’m very weak and ill;

That I might from sin be free, Bled and died upon the tree.

Yes, Jesus loves me!  Yes, Jesus loves me!

 Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

.

Jesus loves me—He who died, Heaven’s gate to open wide;

 He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.

Yes, Jesus loves me!  Yes, Jesus loves me!

 Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

.

Jesus loves me—He will stay Close beside me all the way,

Though hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for the.

Yes, Jesus loves me!  Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

+ Readings +

FIRST READING          Acts 4:23-31

When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant,[a] said by the Holy Spirit,

“‘Why did the Gentiles rage,
    and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth set themselves,
    and the rulers were gathered together,
    against the Lord and against his Anointed’[b]

27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Leader:  O Lord, have mercy on us.

People:  Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORY

Leader:  Deliver me, O Lord, my God, for You are the God of my salvation.

People:  Rescue me from my enemies, protect me from those who rise against me.

Leader:  In You, O Lord, do I put my trust, leave me not, O Lord, my God.

People:  Rescue me from my enemies, protect me from those who rise against me.

Leader:  Deliver me, O Lord, my God, for You are the God of my salvation.

People:  Rescue me from my enemies, protect me from those who rise against me.

SERMON HYMN           “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

Come, thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.

While the hope of endless glory fills my heart with joy and love,

Teach me ever to adore Thee, may I still thy goodness prove.

.

Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by thy help I’m come;

And I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.

.

O to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be;

Let that grace now like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;

Here’s my heartk, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.

LORD’S PRAYER

ALL:    Our Father who art in heaven,
     hallowed be Thy name,
     Thy kingdom come,
     Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
     give us this day our daily bread;
     and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
     and lead us not into temptation,
     but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

COLLECT FOR LENT

Leader: Almighty and everlasting God, You despise nothing You have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent. Create in us new and contrite hearts that lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness we may receive from You full pardon and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People: Amen.

COLLECT FOR PEACE

Leader:  O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works, give to us, Your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey Your commandments and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People:  Amen.

BENEDICTION

Leader:  The grace of our Lord + Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

People:  Amen.

HYMN          “All Through the Night”

Sleep my child and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night

Verse 2
While the moon her watch is keeping
All through the night
While the weary world is sleeping
All through the night

O’er thy spirit gently stealing
Visions of delight revealing
Breathes a pure and holy feeling
All through the night
