BLOOMING…………….My next door neighbor informed me that azaleas bloom in the summer in Oregon.  Coming from the American South, this was strange to hear.  It was common to have azaleas out early in the month of April.

Up until last week, I’ve been disappointed as we have had no blooms.  “Why aren’t you coming!?!”  The plants must have heard my frustration as this week we had our first bloom. The beauty of that one bloom has made the wait worthwhile.  Each time I pass by the shrub I am reminded of its beauty and my impatience.

God works in a similar way with us.  Our dry and quiet moments become tiresome, but soon God meets us with growth and full bloom.  Consider Isaiah 35:1:  “The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus.”  God will give you blossom.  God will allow you to reach your full potential.

I ask that you pray for the staff, faculty, administration, students and parents of our Philomath Schools as the school year begins.  It was today that many students met their teachers for the very first time.  I could see the nerves, the joys, and the apprehension.

Let us pray that God will give patience and understanding for each person as they wait for their time to bloom.  It will come!  And it will be beautiful.

BLOOMING PART II………………..There is some blooming happening already right now at the Philomath schools.  Unfortunately, many of those blooms are in the weeds.  The churches of Philomath are partnering together this Saturday (August 29th)  from 8 to noon to tackle these weeds and bring beauty to our schools.  Bring your gloves and general gardening tools.  Teams will be working at Clemens Primary School, Philomath Elementary School, Philomath Middle School and Philomath High School.   I will be at Clemens if you want to seek me out.  Lunch will be provided afterwards!

SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTERS READY…Check your mailboxes for September’s newsletter.  Rally Day is right around the corner on Sunday 13th.  We will be switching back to our regular schedule with Sunday School at 9:45 and Worship at 11.  We’ll have games, extended fellowship and yes, a bounce house.  Would someone please make sure Oscar doesn’t enter the bounce house and bounce with the children?

HOSEA BIBLE STUDY………There will be a community-wide women’s Bible Study on the book of Hosea.  This is organized by the Mid-Valley Women of Christ.  The study will be meeting at Peace from 9 to 11 am on Tuesdays, beginning September 15th and ending November 10th.
