TRUST.………….We don’t always have to know all the details about where we are going. That is especially true today as we cant trust GPS I use the GPS on my phone to get to most places. Just yesterday I plugged in an address and put my trust in where my phone was leading–I am sure you do the same. There was little doubt that all the turns and distances were accurate. I don’t know what I would do without GPS!
We are going to find out that Abram is like us this Sunday. He personally had very little information about where he was going. The Lord says to Abram in Genesis 12, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.” Abram learned to trust his GPS system–God. God’s promise was to lead Abram right to the spot he wanted him to be. I am sure through time that Abram learned to trust God in all of his life journeys.
I pray that the same is true for you. I remember some of the first moments that I tried GPS. I was skeptical and looked for the mistakes that I was sure would be made. Now, I don’t do that so much. I simply plug in the address and trust where I am being led.
Our relationship with God works in a similar way. At first, there may be doubts about the direction God is asking us to take. “I want to go my way!” we answer. Through time we realize that God’s ways are always best. We can even get to the point where we completely put our trust, future and direction into His hands.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT………..Thank you to all for showing up last Tuesday night. The bounce houses were great and there was plenty of food to go around. Be sure to say thank you to the many community volunteers and the police.
SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVE AWAY………..June’s Kids Kloset and its partnering churches are asking for our help in providing school supplies for Philomath School District Students. Please bring the items to Peace (in the bins in the narthex), Citizen’s Bank or True Value. This drive will end on August 25. If you know of a child in need, the give away will be at College United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 27. See our bulletin board at Peace for more information and a complete listing of items. Here are some of the items: binders, calculators, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, markers–dry erase, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, scissors (Fiskor brand with pointed and rounded tips), sharpies, wet wipes.
Camp Lutherwood………I just returned from Camp Lutherwood and I am happy to report that all the children with a Peace connection are doing great! One said that they can’t wait “to sleep underneath the stars tonight”.
