THE HOLY SPIRIT.……….The Holy Spirit is typically thought of as the softer and gentler member of the Holy Trinity. The image that naturally comes to my mind is that of a dove. As a dove gracefully floats through the air and lands gently on the ground, so too does the Holy Spirit. I have thought this way about the Holy Spirit for years!
Yet the Bible presents the Holy Spirit as a member of the Holy Trinity that brings power! John 20:22-23 describes the moment that Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to his disciples, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” This was not a passive and submissive spirit that Jesus was passing on to his disciples. Jesus was sharing the Holy Spirit which had the power to forgive sins.
Because the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you have this power. You have the ability to make an impact for good and leave behind a blessing in the lives you reach. You are not so much affected by the force of the culture of the world! You have the power and force to bring positive change in the world. You never do it alone, it comes through the power of the Holy Spirit. Come this Sunday to be reminded about how you can use this power and force!
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL…………This Sunday we are continuing our series on “Understanding Mental Health” and will be discussing dementia. Dementia is a progressive brain disease that occurs with increasing frequency as a person ages. It is now believed that one in three seniors will die with some form of dementia. The important and very positive point to be made this Sunday is this: We can help one another find meaning in life and a greater connection to a loving, accepting God. Jerry Wylie will be our guest speaker. I simply share what he posted on his Facebook page, “I will share “my story, my journey with dementia this Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church. All are welcome. I will also share my plans for starting a dementia/alzheimer’s support group here in Philomath for people with dementia and their caregivers. Let’s learn to “Live Well With Dementia.” We will begin at 9:45 AM.
LUTHER MOVIE.………..A movie about Martin Luther is potentially coming to the Darkside Cinema in Corvallis on June 22 at 6:30 PM. Go to the “events” tab and enter “97330” or “Corvallis, OR”. This website also has a trailer that can viewed.
