BRINGING COMFORT.………..I read this morning an article about how faith assists us in the midst of tragedy. The article is entitled “Faith Helps Mass Shooting Survivors” and can be found on the website of Christianity Today. I thought it would be encouraging to simply share some quotes in the article:
“Recent research around mass shootings indicates that people of faith, particularly those who receive support from their churches and religious communities, fare better in their recover.”
“After a mass shooting, people who felt supported by their religious communities ultimately experienced fewer symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and their faith didn’t suffer as much……..”
“Researchers found that after a mass shooting, religious support buffers the deleterious relationship between resource loss and negative outcomes.”
“Survivors with high levels of support from their faith communities don’t show the level of worsening symptoms experienced by people without such community.”
James 5:13-16 says, “Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call the elders of the church and have them pray over them……..”
Today lets give thanks for the power that comes from having a faith community. We continue to lift up those who are on the ground in Texas bringing comfort to those with broken hearts.
SUNDAY……………We will not have our usual opening this Sunday for Sunday School. We need the children and youth here and ready to go in the sanctuary at 9:45 am for the Christmas program practice. The adults are invited to attend Brad Hellesto’s class on Ephesians in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 am.
LADIES BAZAAR………..The ladies are at it again with their annual Holiday Bazaar. And we are so thankful for all they do. Come and support the Bazaar this Saturday, November 11 from 9 am to 3 pm. The proceeds from the Bazaar support local charities. Thank you ladies for your service to the Lord and the community!
