PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH
PALM SUNDAY: April 5, 2020
AS WE GATHER………….. On Palm Sunday and throughout Jesus’ Passion, many voices were raised to oppose Him. But only one voice, Jesus’, calls us to look beyond the seeming tragedy of His death on the cross. As we recall our Lord’s Passion, we also anticipate joining those who sing “Hosanna” in eternity.
GOSPEL READING Jesus enters Jerusalem. John 12:12-19
Reader: The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!”
His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him and had been done to Him. The crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet Him was that they heard He had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him.”
Reader: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

MESSAGE “Going: It’s about Starting, Stopping and Starting back up again”
Question of the Day. Is talking about Jesus intimidating to you? Why?
L: Let us pray to the Lord that He may hear us on behalf of the people of God and all people as they have need.
L: Lord Jesus, although their Lord, at table You taught Your disciples the nature of true servanthood. Guide and direct all who work in the healing professions, in police departments and armed forces, in all levels of government, and in the cultivation and distribution of crops, that they see themselves as Your servants for the common good and be given the wisdom and guidance they need. Lord, in Your mercy,
L: Hear our prayer.
L: Lord Jesus, although You are the great physician and healer, those who follow You have failed to look to You for all their needs. Show mercy to those who are suffering especially from the coronavirus and restore their strength. Deal compassionately with them and bless them with Your healing power. We commit each person to Your gracious mercy and protection. Lord, in Your mercy,
L: Hear our prayer.
L: Lord Jesus, although Peter spoke confidently, You knew that in weakness he would deny You; yet You said he would turn and strengthen his brothers. Strengthen all whose faith is weak, those who face this day burdened by their past errors, and all who cannot comprehend the depth of Your love, that they realize and rejoice in the forgiveness You so freely offer. Lord, in Your mercy,
L: Hear our prayer.
L: In the garden, although You prayed in anguish, You asked that the Father’s will be done. We remember before You especially (names………..). Grant courage to them and all who struggle with sudden crisis or long-term illness, all who are near death, and all who languish, unjustly imprisoned and discriminated against, that they rely on Your gracious plans. Lord, in Your mercy,
L: Hear our prayer.
L: On the cross, although facing death Yourself, You promised paradise to a criminal and proclaimed the payment for our sins finished. Grant that Your Holy Spirit open the ears of those who have not heard the Gospel in terms they can understand and believe, that they rejoice with us in the forgiveness of sins and the paradise that awaits all who rely on Your grace and love. Lord, in Your mercy,
L: Hear our prayer.
L: At the end, although You could not do anything physically, You committed Your spirit to the Father. Into Your hands, heavenly Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
L: Amen.
L: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thin is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
L: The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make His face shine on us and be gracious to us. The Lord look upon us with favor and + give us peace. Amen.
