Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER……………….. We ought to know from experience that the end times will not be quiet. The world is ending its days with wickedness and destruction. Soon all of mankind’s accomplishments will stand in ruin, but the Word of the Lord will endure forever. Most importantly, the Lord will not abandon us to the persecution, suffering and death around us. We belong to Him. His presence goes before us. His promise is sure: He who endures to the end will be saved!
RINGING OF THE BELL
CHORAL OPENING “We Will Come to Praise the Lord”
We will come to praise the Lord.
He is our salvation.
Shout His praises evermore,
Lord and King of every nation.
Brothers, Sisters everywhere,
we are God’s creation.
He gives us His love to share:
come and join in celebration.
Sing praises, Alleluia.
Alleluia, God our King.
For He is our Lord and
worthy is His name.
Lift your voice, and sing!
(Repeat from Beginning)
We will come to praise the Lord.
He is our salvation.
Shout His praises evermore,
Lord and King of every nation.
Brothers, Sisters everywhere,
we are God’s creation.
He gives us His love to share:
come and join in celebration.
Come praise the Lord.
Come praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!
Leader: Dear Lord, we pray that you would shine the bright beams of your light into our lives today. Our days are often filled with darkness. In our worship today, send the light of your forgiveness, the light of your Word, and the light of your mercy into our hearts and minds. We want to reflect your light! In Jesus’ name we pray.
People: Amen.
BEING HONEST TO GOD………..
Leader: As children of God who desire to be at peace with our Lord, with ourselves, and with all people, let us come with confidence before the throne of grace to confess our sins and to receive absolution.
~~~~~ Moment of Silence ~~~~~
People: Almighty God, who speaks peace to His people, Your salvation is near to all who fear You. We know well that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. Grant us Your mercy, and spare us from the just punishment of our sin, which our Lord Jesus Christ has borne for us on the cross. Renew us by Your Holy Spirit that we may walk in the way of peace both now and forever.
RECEIVING GOD’S GRACE…….
Leader: God has promised to grant His forgiveness to all who repent of their sins and turn to Him for mercy. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. God keep you in perfect peace, lead you in ways of faith and obedience, and bring you to live with Him forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
People: Amen.
HYMN OF PRAISE “Shine, Jesus Shine”
By: Graham Kendrick; ©1987 Make Way Music (Admin. by Music Services, Inc.)
Lord, the Light of Your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us.
Set us free by the truth You now bring us.
Shine on me, shine on me.
.
Chorus: Shine, Jesus, shine,
Fill this land with the Father’s glory;
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, Set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river flow, Flood the nations with
grace and mercy.
Send forth Your Word, Lord,
and let there be light.
.
Lord, I come to Your awesome presence,
From the shadows into Your radiance;
By the blood I may enter Your brightness,
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness,
Shine on me, shine on me.
Chorus
As we gaze on Your kingly brightness,
So our faces display Your likeness;
Ever changing from glory to glory,
Mirror’d here may our lives tell Your story,
Shine on me, shine on me.
Chorus
Leader: Let us pray.
Leader: Eternal God, as we face the uncertainties and darkness of life in this world, help us also to take great hope in the promise of Your deliverance into the brightness of eternal life with You in the new heavens and earth; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
Leader: Today is the third-to-last Sunday of the Church Year. The long season of Pentecost comes to a close and the new church year begins with the season of Advent. The readings encourage us to live in hope even if our current circumstances would have us think otherwise.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
Christ, the sacrifice once for all
24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.
25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own,
26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
OLD TESTAMENT: I Kings 17:8-16
The widow of Zarephath
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.”
11 And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 And she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son.
14 For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’ ”
15 And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days.
16 The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
The widow’s offering
38 And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
40 who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” 41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums.
42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O my soul, Praise Him,
for He is your health and salvation!
Let all who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Joining in glad adoration!
.
Praise to the Lord,
who o’er all things is wondrously reigning,
And, as on wings of an eagle,
uplifting, sustaining.
Have you not seen
All that is needful has been
Sent by His gracious ordaining?
.
Praise to the Lord,
who will prosper your work and defend you;
Surely His goodness and mercy
shall daily attend you.
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend you.
.
Praise to the Lord,
Oh let all that is in me adore Him!
All that has life and breath,
come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen
Sound from His people again,
Gladly forever we adore Him.
.
CLOSING SONG “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”
Text: Samuel F Smith, 1805-1895, Tune: Thesaurus Musicus, London, 1744; © 1978 by Lutheran Church in America The American Lutheran Church, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada, The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
My country, ‘tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring.
.
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.
.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom’s song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
.
Our fathers’ God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing:
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light.
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our king.
Leader: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
Vina Moses Center Christmas Program. For many years, Peace has supported the annual Vina Moses Center Christmas program. We will place gift tags on Sunday, November 24th, on the side windows of the front door that contain the Christmas gift wishes of children from financially challenged families in Benton County. We hope that you will take a tag or two. If you do not have an opportunity to get a tag but still would like to participate, we are asking you to consider purchasing a new toy, game, book, or puzzle for the program. The children participating in the program are between infancy and 18 years of age. For many children, the gift that they receive through this program will be the only gift they receive this Christmas.
Please bring the unwrapped toy, game, book, or puzzle to the worship service on Sunday, December 8th. We will collect them in the Narthex. If you are unable to bring the toy to the service, please contact George Abele at 541-730-0476 or [email protected] to make arrangements to pick up the toy. Thank you!
