Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER… Some people believe they are blessed when they receive a good cup of coffee or when they look good in their swimsuits. While these may be blessings, we are truly blessed because we are God’s children who are guided, guarded, protected, and provided for by our Good Shepherd. Our heavenly Father has claimed and cleansed us in the waters of Baptism. As God’s children, we are saints now and forever—not because of anything we have done or will do but because of Jesus. Jesus begins His Sermon on the Mount by listing how and when we are blessed. Jesus richly blesses us saints in this life and in the one yet to come.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALLING ON GOD

Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

People: Amen.

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS

Leader: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires are known, and from whom no secrets are hid:  Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People: Amen.

Leader: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

~Silence for reflection~

Leader: Most merciful God,

People: We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.  Amen.

Leader: God, our heavenly Creator, hears the prayers of all people and answers those prayers.  Our prayer for forgiveness is answered in the person and work of Jesus Christ, who died for our sin that we might have new life.  By the command of Jesus, I forgive you all of your sins—in the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit.

People: Amen.

KYRIE

Leader: In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.

People: Amen.

THE HYMN OF PRAISE

Leader: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia.

People: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.

Power and riches and wisdom and strength, and honor and blessing and glory are His.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia.

Sing with all the people of God and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing and honor and glory and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.

This is the feast of victory for our God, for the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia. Alleluia.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Leader: Let us Pray. Heavenly Father, You have lavished a great love upon Your children from every nation, tribe, and language.  Show us mercy and comfort, Lord, as we mourn those saints who have gone before us in the faith, so that we continue to share Your love with all nations, through Jesus, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People: Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

FIRST LESSON         Revelation 7:9-17

Salvation belongs to God and the Lamb!

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” 13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

 15  “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.  16  They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.  17  For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water,   and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People:  Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL               Matthew 5:1-12

God’s children are blessed.

5 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to You, O Christ.

SERMON HYMN:           “For All the Saints”

Keith Getty; Stuart Townend; 2001 Thankyou Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing) ©1978 published by Augsburg Publishing House, Minneapolis & Board of Publication, Lutheran Church in America, Philadelphia CCLI License #11470020

For all the saints who

 from their labors rest,

All who by faith before

the world confessed,

Your name, O Jesus,

be forever blest.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

You were their rock,

their fortress, and their might;

You, Lord, their captain in

the well-fought fight;

You, in the darkness drear,

their one true light.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

Oh, blest communion,

fellowship divine,

We feebly struggle,

they in glory shine;

Yet all are one within

your great design.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

But then there breaks

a yet more glorious day:

The saints triumphant

rise in bright array;

The King of glory

passes on his way.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

SERMON

Pastor Jeremy Lucke

APOSTLES’ CREED

People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,

Born of the virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy Christian Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life + everlasting.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom,

And the power, and the glory,

Forever and ever.  Amen

DISTRIBUTION HYMNS

“You Who Dwell in the Shelter”

Text & Music: Michael Joncas (1951) CCLI License #11470020

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,

Who abide in this shadow for life,

Say to the Lord: “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!”

And I will raise you up on eagle’s wings,

Bear you on the breath of dawn,

Make you to shine like the sun,

And hold you in the palm of my hand.

Snares of the fowler will never capture you,

And famine will bring you no fear;

Under God’s wings your refuge

With faithfulness your shield.

And I will raise you up on eagle’s wings,

Bear you on the breath of dawn,

Make you to shine like the sun,

And hold you in the palm of my hand.

“Precious Lord, Take My Hand”

Text & Music: Thomas A. Dorsey (1899-1993); 1938 Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. (Admin. by CURB | Word Music Publishing) CCLI License #1470020

Precious Lord, take my hand,

Lead me on, help me stand—

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;

Thro’ the storm, thro’ the night,

Lead me on to the light—

Take my hand, precious Lord,

lead me home.

When my way grows drear,

Precious Lord, linger near—

When my life is almost gone;

Hear my cry, hear my call,

Hold my hand lest I fall—

Take my hand, precious Lord,

lead me home.

POST-COMMUNION SONG:     “Thank the Lord”

People: Thank the Lord and sing his praise; tell ev’ryone what he has done. Let ev’ryone who seeks the Lord rejoince and proudly bear his name.

He recalls his promises and leads his people forth in joy with shouts of thanksgiving. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Leader: Eternal Father, in the words of Jesus, Your Son, You have shown to us the way of those who are truly blessed. Send Your Holy Spirit to direct and counsel us in all things and bring us at last to Your eternal kingdom. In the name of Jesus we pray.

People: Amen.

CLOSING SONG    “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”

Text: Samuel Medley, 1783-1799, alt; Tune: attr. John Hatton, d.1793 Public Domain CCLI License #11470020

I Know that my Redeemer lives!

What comfort this sweet sentence gives!

He lives, he lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my everliving head!

.

He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives, and I shall conquer death;

He lives my mansion to prepare;

He lives to bring me safely there.

.

He lives all glory to his name!

He lives, my Savior, still the same;

What joy this blest assurance gives:

I know that my Redeemer lives!

Dismissal

Leader: Go in peace. Serve the Lord

People: Thanks be to God.

NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDY…………. Elder Dave is beginning a new adult series on the book of Philippians. Philippians is known as the epistle of joy. How could that be possible? Wasn’t Paul in prison and facing his own death? How could Paul possibly say, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say rejoice (Philippians 4:4)?!” Joy comes from knowing that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). All are welcome for this discussion and study. We will meet at 9:00 am in the fellowship hall.

NOVEMBER NEWSLETTERS…………… The November Newsletters are available. They are available in hard copy form in the narthex. They can also be accessed on our website. Peace is focusing on ways to be a blessing to the community in the month of November.

NEW MEMBER CLASS………….. Pastor Lucke is offering a new member class on Sunday mornings beginning Sunday, November 2. This class is open to anyone, but particularly anyone desiring membership at Peace. Contact Pastor Lucke if you’d like to know more or participate!
