Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC
AS WE GATHER……….. Sometimes people are hard to love. Jesus’ parable “The Good Samaritan” gives us a clear picture of what authentic love looks like. Love involves presence. Love entails risk. Love calls for sacrifice. Presence, risk and sacrifice are a part of the Samaritan’s response to the person in need on the road. In our worship we are reminded of the kind of love Jesus loves us. We are also challenged to display the same in our relationship with others.
RINGING OF THE BELL…………..After the ringing of the bell, we take a few moments to prepare our hearts and minds in silence for today’s worship.
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALLING ON GOD
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Leader: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
People: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Leader: This is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us.
People: Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you.
Leader: Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
People: The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.
WE CONFESS………………
Leader: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
~~~~~ Silence for reflection ~~~~~
Leader: Holy and gracious God,
People: I confess that I have sinned against You. Some of my sin I know—the thoughts and words and deeds of which I am sorry—but some is known only to You. In the name of Jesus I ask for forgiveness. Deliver and restore me, that I may rest in peace.
RECEIVING FORGIVENESS
Leader: Beloved in the Lord, God has heard our confession, and because of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, He has answered with good news. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
Robert Robinson & Asshel Nettleton CCLE License #11470020
Come, thou fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
While the hope of endless glory
Fills my hear with joy and love,
Teach me ever to adore Thee;
May I still Thy goodness prove.
.
Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger,
interposed His precious blood.
.
Oh, to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be;
Let that grace now like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for Thy courts above.
.
Oh, that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face
Clothed then in the blood-washed linen,
how I’ll sing Thy wondrous grace!
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransom’d soul away;
Send thine angels soon to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Leader: Let us Pray……..God of truth and life, You called people in comfort and complacency back to You and to the tasks You had prepared for the sake of Your kingdom. Continue to guide us in the direction of righteousness that we may trust in You rather than in ourselves, serving our neighbors to the glory of Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
OLD TESTAMENT Deuteronomy 6:1-9
6 “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Holy GOSPEL: Luke 10:25-37
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.
34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
APOSTLES’ CREED
People: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And was born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate.
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING
The offerings gathered are a sign of our whole lives offered to God in humble gratitude for his greatest of all offerings, his Son offered for our salvation.
OFFERTORY
PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
Leader: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Lord God, You have taught us through Your Word that the pursuit of a self-centered and complacent faith is not what You have intended for us. Rather, You call us to walk in Your will and ways for the furthering of Your kingdom and the loving of our neighbors.
People: We praise You for Your wisdom, Lord. Empower us to live a life focused on faith, love, care for others, endurance, and joy in You.
Leader: Lord God, Jesus taught us that there is no eternal value in placing the pursuit of riches as the priority of our life as it leads to a path of separation from You.
People: Strengthen our faith, Lord. Teach us to rely on You rather than our own pursuits and interests. Strengthen us through the work of Your Spirit in us.
Leader: Grant that those whom You have called and placed as overseers and leaders in Your places of worship may faithfully fulfill the calling in which You have placed them that they may speak Your Word in confidence.
People: Grant that each person in every vocation serve You and others in Your name all the days of their life.
Leader: Lord God, let the cries of all in need come before You, (especially…..). By Your merciful goodness, grant healing to their bodies and peace to their souls.
People: Comfort and support all who are burdened and sorrowful, that in all their sadness, faith may remain firm.
Leader: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord.
People: Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
REFORMATION SUNDAY………… Next Sunday is Reformation Sunday at Peace–Sunday, October 26. Wear red to celebrate this special day! We take time to remember Martin Luther’s work in reforming the Church in his day. Luther desired the Christian Church to be about Sola Scriptura (by Scripture alone), Sola Fidei (by Faith Alone), and Sola Gratia (by Grace Alone). Reformation is not merely a Sunday about heritage or history. It is encouragement to always be about reform toward Scripture, Grace and Faith.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY NEXT WEEK…………. When we hear the word evangelism, negative images inevitably come to mind. Why is this? Perhaps it is because we tend to think that evangelism is manipulative, colonial, and fear based. This was not Jesus’ intention for evangelism. He meant evangelism to be about building relationships by listening to others…..asking questions…..offering prayer. All are welcome for this discussion, next Sunday, October 26 at 9:00 am in the sanctuary. This will be our last session on Loved and Sent. On Sunday, November 2 we begin a new class on the book of Philippians.
CHURCH COUNCIL……………. Peace’s Church Council meets this Tuesday, October 21 at 7 pm.
NEW MEMBER CLASS………….. Pastor Lucke is offering a new member class on Sunday mornings beginning Sunday, November 2. This class is open to anyone, but particularly anyone desiring membership at Peace. The goal of the class is to share the most important aspects of what we teach and believe. We also aim to share ways to build relationships and connect with the church and its happenings. Contact Pastor Lucke if you’d like to know more or participate!
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY…………….. All Saints Sunday is Sunday, November 2. This is our way of recognizing our communion with the saints of old and those who have recently departed us. Do you know of someone that you would like to be remembered as a part of the communion of saints that has gone before us? Please share the name with Karyn by October 29. We will recognize the person with the ringing of the bell and moment of silence in the service on November 2.
Bazaar News… The bazaar is next Saturday! Please come!!
