Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC
AS WE GATHER… We need mercy. In fact, all people need mercy. In today’s Epistle, Paul urges that prayers be made for all people—for kings and all in authority. In our tense political times, we may be reluctant to pray for those we consider our political enemies, but God calls on us to pray for all, whether rich or poor, whether we agree with them or not. God desires to show mercy to all people—even our enemies!
RINGING OF THE BELL…………..After the ringing of the bell, we take a few moments to prepare our hearts and minds in silence for today’s worship.
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALLING ON GOD
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
TODAY’S THEME
Leader: God invites us to speak to Him.
People: He wants to hear from us.
Leader: He longs to hear our supplications and prayers,
People: our intercessions and thanksgivings for all people.
Leader: God desires that all people are saved
People: and come to a knowledge of the truth.
Leader: Whether rich or poor, rulers or the destitute,
People: God desires to save all people.
Leader: Blessed be the name of the Lord
People: from this time forth and forevermore!
WE CONFESS AND ARE FORGIVEN
Leader: Though God invites us to speak with Him in prayer, we have ignored His invitation. We may be tempted to choose complaining and worrying over conversing with God. We may be tempted to listen to ourselves and the world instead of to God’s Word. We turn to God’s infinite mercy and ask for His forgiveness.
~~~~~ A time of silence is observed. ~~~~~
Leader: Heavenly Father,
People: we confess that we have ignored You and the gift of prayer and conversation with You. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus, have mercy on us. Forgive us our sin. Restore us as Your beloved people.
Leader: God hears your confession and invites you back into holy conversation with Him. Almighty God in His mercy showed His love for us in this, that He gave His Son, Jesus, to die and rise for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE: “You Are My All in All”
Dennis Jernigan; 1991 Shepherd’s Heart Music, Inc. (Admin. by PraiseCharts Publishing, Inc.)
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the Treasure that I seek,
You are my All in All.
Seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord to give up I’d be a fool.
You are my All in All.
.
Chorus: Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
.
Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
rising again I bless Your name.
You are my All in All.
When I fall down, You pick me up;
When I am dry, You fill my cup.
You my All in All
Chorus
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Leader: Let us Pray. O Lord, in Your abundant mercy, You invite us into holy conversation with You; increase our faithfulness to You that we continually bring You our supplications, prayers, and thanksgivings; through Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
FIRST LESSON Amos 8:4-7
4 Hear this, you who trample on the needy and bring the poor of the land to an end, 5 saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances, 6 that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and sell the chaff of the wheat?” 7 The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
SECOND LESSON I Timothy 2:1-15
2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 9 likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. 11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Holy GOSPEL: John 14:1-7
14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN “In Christ Alone”
Keith Getty; Stuart Townend; 2001 Thankyou Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing)
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light my strength my song
This Cornerstone this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest
drought and storm
.
What heights of love
what depths of peace
When fears are stilled
when strivings cease
My Comforter my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
.
In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
.
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
.
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the
precious blood of Christ
.
No guilt in life no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
.
No power of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
SERMON
APOSTLES’ CREED
People: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And was born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate.
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
We are the flock he comes to fee.
The sheep who by His hand were made.
Lift up your voice,
and magnify His holy name.
O let the earth rejoice,
Lift up your voice,
PORTALS OF PRAYER………………. Peace has the new Portals of Prayer devotionals for October to December available. Take one for yourself and consider sharing one with a friend. The devotionals can be picked up in the entryway at church.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY IN SEPTEMBER…………. Peace is offering a class titled, “Loved and Sent.” Identity and purpose are fundamental aspects of every human being. However, in the chaos and confusion of modern society, cutting through all the noise and distraction makes defining what really matters and what’s most important elusive at times. Loved and Sent is an encouraging, Biblical way to discover identity and purpose. The material from the book is based largely on Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. Next week (September 28), Pastor Norm will be sharing about the background of the SC. All are welcome!
PASTOR AWAY……………… Pastor is away for the Fall Pastor’s Conference in Cannon Beach, September 23 to 25. He is also away for vacation on September 27 to October 2. If you are in need of pastoral assistance, consider connecting with one of our elders: Oscar, Rick, Kay, Dave and Merv. Dan is also available and in the office this week.
Bazaar News… Do you love baking? Please consider making cookies for “The Cookie Jar” where our guests can purchase an assortment of cookies by the dozen(s). This is an incredibly popular area of the bazaar. If you can believe it, last year we sold out of over 120+ DOZEN cookies! Yowza! You can bake now and freeze!
And of course, bazaars are the best place to find delicious Tasty Treats such as pies, cupcakes, muffins, holiday breads, cookie mixes, candy creations, snack mixes, and more. Most can be made ahead and frozen as well.
Note: Last year items in Ziplock’s or Tupperware did not sell as well. We will have a supply of packaging items available for you if needed. See Kay or Sally if you want to use some.
More to come…
