AS WE GATHER

Lord God, our shepherd, You gather the lambs of Your flock into the arms of Your mercy and bring them home.  Comfort us with the certain hope of the resurrection to everlasting life and a joyful reunion with those we love who have died in the faith—in Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION

OPENING HYMN  Green Book 448                           “Amazing Grace”

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found;

Was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

‘Tis grace has bought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me;

His Word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures.

PRAYER

Pastor: O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for Your loving-kindness shown to Joyce and to all Your servants who, having finished their course in faith, now rest from their labors.  Grant that we also may be faithful unto death and receive the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People:  Amen.

JOYCE’S LIFE IN WORDS

SCRIPTURE READING                                      Psalm 23

   The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

SCRIPTURE READING                                      John 10:27-29

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

HYMN                                                  “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”

Precious Lord, take my hand………..Lead me on, let me stand;

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.

Through the storms, through the night……..Lead me on to the light.

Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home

When my way grows drear……..Precious Lord, linger near,

When my life is almost gone,

Hear my cry, hear my call……..Hold my hand lest I fall.

Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home.

When the darkness appears……..And the night draws near

And the day is almost gone,

At the river I stand; Guide my feet, hold my hand,

Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home.

People: Amen.

CLOSING HYMN  Red Book 246                  “What A Friend”

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations, is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful who with all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer;

In his arms he’ll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there.
