As We Gather

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.  Today we gather in the valley.  Grief rising on one side, pain rising on the other.  The valley can be lonely, treacherous, and all encompassing.  I will fear no evil.  Ahead lies a mountain, a mountain of hope.  Joy and peace envelop all who pass through the valley and ascend the mountain.  Today we make that journey to the mountaintop.

Welcome

Opening Prayer

Scripture Reading                            I Corinthians 12:31b-13:8a

And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Tenille’s Life in Words and Pictures

Tenille Rene Holroyd was born December 23, 1975 to Sharry Gale and Gary Haworth in Corvallis, Oregon. Tenille grew up attending Jefferson, Highland, and Corvallis High schools. Throughout school Tenille roved playing sports and participated in volleyball, basketball, and track. She loved to sprint and took great pride in holding a record for fouling out of the most basketball games. Upon graduation, she went to Southern Oregon college for a year before returning to the valley and attending Linn Benton Community College and Oregon State University. She graduated from O.S.U.. majoring in business. Tenille worked as a youth sports coach, at Pizza Hut, and at Corvallis High school, before starting at the city of Corvallis in Development services in 1996, where she had worked since.

Tenille greatly enjoyed working with the public, helping people, and seeing projects through to fruition. She prided herself with being able to work with both pleasant and difficult customers while assisting them in their construction endeavors. When she changed positions within the department she missed the customer interactions, but enjoyed new challenges, as she always loved learning new things.

After a time, Tenille eventually relented and in L998, married Byron Holroyd who was lucky enough to share the rest of her life with her. They enjoyed spending countless hours together working in the yard and garden, going for walks, playing catch, basketball and volleyball, watching comedies, and sitting on the back deck and reflecting on life. They loved vacationing in Disneyland both before and after children. Craft making and finding new projects were passions for Tenille who rarely spent an evening not crocheting a hat, baby slippers, a scarf, making a blanket, burp cloths, napkins, scrubbies, banners, magnets, ties, placemats, or whatever other new projects she was venturing.

When her sons Jackson and Samuel were born they immediately became the center of her life and constant source of happiness. As an avid reader, she loved reading with her boys and did so every day. She also enjoyed playing games with them, doing movie night, playing outside, and going for walks, especially to the duck pond.

Tenille was thoughtful, kind, loving, organized, smart, responsible, funny, generous, and exemplified patience throughout her life. These were especially apparent in her love for those around her, animals in all shapes and sizes, and children, especially babies. She was never too busy to give a hug, bestow a well-deserved high five, or put together a care package for someone in need. Tenille was an amazing individual and truly a once in a lifetime partner, friend, and cohort.

Tenille is survived by her sons Jackson (9), Samuel (6), husband Byron, father Gary Haworth, mother Sharry Gale, sisters Sara and Ashley, in-laws Jerry and Joyce Holroyd, sister in-law Janel, brother in-laws Kyle and Christian, and countless family, friends, and loved ones.

Song of Hope                                    Blest Be the Tie That Binds

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.

We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear,
and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.

When we are called to part, it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.

This glorious hope revives our courage by the way;
while each in expectation lives and waits to see the day.

From sorrow, toil, and pain, and sin, we shall be free;
and perfect love and friendship reign through all eternity.

Scripture Reading                                                            John 11:20-27

So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

Message of Hope                                                            John 11:25-26

Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy Christian Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.  Amen.

Prayer

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Benediction

The Lord bless you and keep you,

The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.

The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.

Amen.
