Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors. Offerings may be placed in the plates by the doors as we exit the sanctuary.

AS WE GATHER… The rule of God is so far above us that we cannot comprehend it. He has all the power throughout all time and eternity. Doubts, however, can arise about out Lord’s care and control. As Peter needed to cling to Jesus amid the stormy seas, so our faith must reach beyond our doubts and hold on to God’s strong foundation. God has destroyed death itself in Jesus’ resurrection. And we already live in His eternal kingdom. Thanks be to God!
Leader: In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen!
Leader: We walk in darkness when the worlds that we use do not build others up. As we begin our worship today, we do well by recognizing our poor choice in words. Too often our words have brought people low so that we can simply feel better about ourselves. Let’s take some time in silence to reflect upon our past mistakes.
~~~~~ Silence for reflection ~~~~~
Leader: Let us confess together,
People: We confess, O Lord, that we have fallen short. We are guilty of sharing words that hurt instead of words that build up. We are guilty too of not using comforting words when we should. As we work in Your kingdom, we sometimes think that we can make little influence. The truth is that we can. We thank you for Your promise of forgiveness. We also ask that we see You in a new way today. You are generous with grace. You have compassion for all.
Leader: Isaiah 55 says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” God’s amazing and generous grace is hard for us to imagine. The good news is that He gives it to You freely today in the forgiveness of sins. I announce God’s grace. In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit, your sins are forgiven!
People: Amen!
SONG OF PRAISE “How Majestic Is Your Name”
Michael W. Smith; Arr. by Henry Wiens
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, we praise your name.
O Lord, we magnify your name:
Prince of Peace, mighty God;
O Lord God Almighty.
.
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, we praise your name.
O Lord, we magnify your name:
Prince of Peace, mighty God;
O Lord God Almighty.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
God Questions Job
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, 7 when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9 when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?
12 “Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, 13 that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
14 It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand out like a garment. 15 From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken.
16 “Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep? 17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?
18 Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.
Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Jesus walks on water and rescues sinking Peter.
22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN: “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”
Text: Charles Wesley, Jr., 1707-1788, Tune: Rowland H. Prichard, 1811-1887
Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven, to earth come down,
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
All Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart.
.
Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit
Into ev’ry troubled breast;
Let us all in Thee inherit;
Let us find thy promised rest;
Take away the love of sinning,
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.
.
Come, Almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise Thee without ceasing,
Glory in Thy perfect love.
.
Finish then Thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see Thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in Thee:
Changed from glory into glory,
Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Lost in wonder, love and praise.
SERMON
Pastor Jeremy Lucke
People: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And was born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate.
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING
We offer our thanksgiving for what God has first given us—our selves, our time, our possessions.
Leader: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Leader: For the Church, gathered around Word and Sacrament, that she proclaim the Gospel in the face of turmoil and oppression; for leaders and laity alike, that the Spirit give them courage in their mission to speak the Gospel that many may hear and come to faith; and for all our brothers and sisters in Christ, that we find the unity to which our Lord calls us, let us pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Leader: For all who serve in government and social positions, that they zealously promote justice and the common good; for those who work in industry and commerce, that their efforts be a blessing to all people; and for favorable weather that harvests be bountiful, famine be alleviated, and praise resound to our Creator, let us pray to the Lord
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Leader: For those who are unemployed, those who deal with social injustice and discrimination, and those who are hungry and homeless, that they seek God’s strength and rely on Him to meet their needs of body, soul, and spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Leader: For those near and dear to us who call out for relief, renewal, and health, (including…), that God would hear their prayers and answer according to His great love for them, let us pray to the Lord.
People: Grant us our requests, heavenly Father, for we lift our voices in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace.
CLOSING SONG: “Go, My Children, with My Blessing”
Text: Jaroslav J. Vajda, 1919-2008, Tune: Welsh, 18th cent.; setting: Ralph Vaughn Williams, 1872-1958; Text © 1983 Concordia Publishing House, Music: Public Domain
Go, My children, with My blessing,
Never alone.
Waking, sleeping, I am with you;
You are My own.
.
In My love’s baptismal river
I have made you Mine forever.
Go, My children with My blessing –
You are My own.
.
Go, My children,
sins forgiven, At peace and pure.
Here you learned how much I love you,
What I can cure.
.
Here you heard My dear Son’s story;
Here you touched Him, saw His glory.
Go, My children, sins forgiven,
At peace and pure.
.
Go, My children,
fed and nourished,
Closer to Me;
Grow in love and love by serving,
Joyful and free.
.
Here My Spirit’s power filled you;
Here His tender comfort stilled you.
Go, My children,
I will keep you
And give you peace.
.
I the Lord will bless and keep you
And give you peace;
I the Lord will smile upon you
And give you peace:
.
I the Lord will be your Father,
Savior, Comforter, and Brother.
Go, My children;
I will keep you
And give you peace.
Leader: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!
