Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

AS WE GATHER…. “By faith…” With these words the writer to the Hebrews describes the manner of life of the saints of old. The writer records that “by faith” God’s people did things. They did not just believe stuff – they acted! This echoes James who challenges us, “Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works” (James 2:18). Life is changing all around us. Entrusting our life and will to the care of the founder and perfecter of our faith, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, God’s people act… by faith.

You are not alone if you are lonely
When you feel afraid you’re not the only
We are all the same in need of mercy
To be forgiven and be free
It’s all you got to lean on
But thank God it’s all you need
Chorus: And all the people said amen whoa
And all the people said amen
Give thanks to the Lord for His love never ends
And all the people said amen
.
If you’re rich or poor well it don’t matter
Weak or strong you know love is what we’re after
We’re all broken but we’re all in this together
God knows we stumble and fall
And He so loved the world
He sent His son to save us all
Chorus
Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart
Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart
Blessed are the people hungry for another start
For theirs is the kingdom the kingdom of God
Chorus (x2)
OPENING HYMN “Come, Now is the Time to Worship”
Brian Doerksen, © 1998 Vineyard Songs (UK/Eire) (Admin. by Integrity Music)
Chorus: Come now is the time to worship
Come now is the time to give your heart
Come just as you are to worship
Come just as you are before your God
Come
One day every tongue
Will confess You are God
One day every knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains
For those who gladly choose You now
Chorus
Willingly we choose to surrender our lives
Willingly our knees will bow
With all our heart soul mind and strength
We gladly choose You now
Chorus
Come come just as you are come come
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Pastor: In the name of the Father, and of the +Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
OPENING SENTENCES
Pastor: Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
People: We should never be discouraged. Let’s take it to the Lord in prayer.
Pastor: Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
People: Jesus knows our every weakness. Let’s take it to the Lord in prayer.
OPENING UP TO GOD AND ONE ANOTHER
Pastor: In a time of confession, let us take our sins to the Lord in prayer, trusting that our Father hears us for the sake of His Son, Jesus.
~~~~~ Silent Reflection ~~~~~
Pastor: Loving God,
People: we confess our alienation from You both by nature and by choice. Help us to know and believe how much You love us. Let us abide in Your love even as You abide with us always. Heal us with forgiveness for Jesus’ sake.
Pastor: People of God, “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,” all of whom struggled in their day, none of them perfect, but all of whom looked forward in hope. Because our Lord Jesus, “For the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame… is seated at the right hand of the throne of God,” we can be confident that He fulfilled all God’s promises and has made His total, gracious forgiveness available to us. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF CONFIDENCE: “Shall We Gather at the River?”
Robert Lowry; Words: Public Domain, Music: Public Domain.
Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
.
Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we ev’ry burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
.
Soon we’ll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
Pastor: Let us Pray. Loving God, You have kindled the fire of Your love among all the peoples of the earth. Grant that we who walk by faith in Jesus be kept by His peace in the midst of every tribulation and conflict with our fellow human beings; through the same Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns in communion and love with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
EPISTLE Hebrews 11:17-31; 12:1-3
The people of God living by faith
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”
19 He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.
20 By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau.
21 By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones.
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.
28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.
29 By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days.
31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You O Christ.
SERMON HYMN: “Lord, I Need You”
Christy Nockels | Daniel Carson | Jesse Reeves | Kristian Stanfill | Matt Maher; © 2011 sixsteps Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), Sweater Weather Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), Thankyou Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), Valley Of Songs Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), worshiptogether.com songs (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing)
Lord I come I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
And without You I fall apart
You’re the one that guides my heart
Chorus: Lord I need You oh I need You
Ev’ry hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Chorus
So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
Chorus
SERMON
Pastor Lucke
People: We believe in God, the Creator of all things, the source of all goodness and love. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, true God yet true man. He was crucified, died and was buried for our sin that we might be free and know the joy of life. He was raised on the third day and ascended to heaven and will come again in power and glory to judge both the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the power of God at work inside of us. We believe in the church of God, the people of faith throughout the world. We believe that our sin is forgiven and that we will live together with God for now and throughout eternity. Amen.
OFFERING
We offer our thanksgiving for what God has first given us – ourselves, our time, our possessions.
OFFERTORY
Pastor: Let us pray together in Christ Jesus for all people according to their needs. For faith to act in love and service to people, as we follow Jesus through the seasons and changes of life, let us pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: For peace in the midst of conflict rather than freedom from it, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: For kind pastors who speak the peace Jesus embodied through the Law and the Gospel, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: For all who hold positions of public trust in this and every land that all people may live in peace, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: For the healing of the sick and peace to all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit (especially…), let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: We trust, O Lord, in Your great mercy to hear and answer us; through Jesus, our Lord.
People: Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
Pastor: Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
People: We should never be discouraged. We take it to the Lord in prayer.
Pastor: Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
People: Because Jesus knows our every weakness, we take all things to the Lord in prayer.
Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and +give you peace.
People: Amen.
CLOSING HYMN “I Love To Tell The Story”
Arabella Katherine Hankey, William Gustavus Fischer; Lyrics: Public Domain, Music: Public Domain.
I love to tell the story
of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and his glory,
of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story,
because I know it’s true;
It satisfies my longings
as nothing else could do
Chorus: I love to tell the story;
‘Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story;
how pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it,
more wonderfully sweet!
I love to tell the story,
for some have never heard
The message of salvation
from God’s own holy Word.
Chorus
I love to tell the story,
for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
I’ll sing the old, old story
that I have loved so long.
Chorus
Pastor: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
