From the Pastor

Dear Peace family,

My children have endless energy. I wouldn’t want it any other way. It does exhaust me, however.

A day can go something like this in the Lucke household. One child is out the door running a distance that is truly meant for a car and not a human body. Another child is off to violin camp perfecting a violin piece that will be played in an upcoming performance. A third child is heading off to basketball camp that goes all day. Later in the day all three enjoy countless fun at the pool. The parents just try to keep up and within distance to make sure that nothing goes too off track. And at the end of the day the parents are satisfied with all that has happened and imagine a nice, pleasant and relatively quiet evening. Nope…not a chance. At the end of a day with constant activity, the three children say in unison, “So what can we do now!?!”

Can you relate? Jesus asked people a similar question, “So what do you want to do now with the faith you say you have?” James, Jesus’ brother, asked his friends a similar question in James 2:14, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?”

Our newsletters are more than informational pieces. Information is important, don’t get me wrong. Our newsletters communicate, however, more than information. They answer the question, “So what can we do now that we have faith?”

What can we do now? This month we can attend the Corvallis for Refugee gathering at Imagine Coffee on Friday, August 8, 5 pm to 9 pm. We can experience what life and food is like for our new neighbors in the community. We can attend Philomath Community Services’ celebration of 50 years in our community on Thursday, August 7, 5 pm to 8 pm, at Cardwell Hill Winery. PCS is our way to help those who are experiencing poverty and insecurities in life. See Pastor if you’d like to go! We can support, donate, and volunteer for the Philomath Blood Drive at Peace on Friday, August 15, noon to 5 pm. See Cheryl Narver if you are interested.

Peace is just like my children. Peace has endless energy—the energy of action that comes from having faith.

Summer blessings,

Pastor J

Adult Bible Class for Summer

The adult Bible Study hour on Sunday morning will be different each week this month. Mark your calendars for Rally Day Sunday on September 7. This will be the beginning of a new series at Peace based on Jeff Cloeter’s book, Loved and Sent. Being loved and knowing that you are sent for purpose are two fundamental needs in life for all people. This book delivers an approachable way to better understand Luther’s Small Catechism. Consider this class a refresher about the basics of Christianity. For the month of August, however, here is the plan for each week:

  • Sunday, August 3……………… Peace Celebrates 75 Years with the Hering Children: Celebrating God’s work done through His people.
  • Sunday, August 10……………. Elder Rick leads a session on the Chosen
  • Sunday, August 17…………… Pastor Lucke and George share an update from this summer’s Northwest District Convention
  • Sunday, August 24……………. Elder Rick/Pastor Lucke share a session on the Chosen
  • Sunday, August 31…………….. No Adult Sunday School. Fall Sunday School series on Loved and Sent begins on September 7
