Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER………………… What is your favorite family tradition? Perhaps it is an annual celebration such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Perhaps it is a more common tradition—an old family recipe or a favorite game. Traditions are passed down from generation to generation. They are often wonderful and meaningful. But sometimes we pass down traditions that are not good for us or the world. The Israelites had passed down traditions related to divorce and giving that were not what God had intended. Jesus rightly criticizes such traditions. Today we consider the most trustworthy tradition that we continually pass from generation to generation: Jesus.
OPENING SONG “Here’s My Heart Lord” (Praise Team)
Chris Tomlin | Jason Ingram | Louie Giglio; © S. D. G. Publishing; Twelve Lions Music; Worship Together Music; worshiptogether.com songs; Open Hands Music; So Essential Tunes
Chorus: Here’s my heart Lord
Here’s my heart Lord
Here’s my heart Lord
Speak what is true
.
‘Cause I am found I am Yours
I am loved I’m made pure
I have life I can breathe
I am healed I am free
.
‘Cause You are strong You are sure
You are life You endure
You are good always true
You are light breaking through
Chorus
You are more than enough
You are here You are love
You are hope You are grace
You’re all I have You’re everything
Chorus
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Leader: The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear?
People: The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Leader: When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.
People: Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
Leader: One thing have I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
OPENING UP TO GOD………..
Leader: The prophet Isaiah once said, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” The Lord desires that we have a clean and upright heart before Him. To make sure that our hearts are clean, we dedicate time each week to confess our wrongdoings, our sins. During this time of silence let us think about the misplaced motives and actions of our hearts.
~~~~~ Silence for reflection ~~~~~
Leader: Let us confess together,
People: Lord we need Your mercy. In this hour, help us to see our sins and pain and pray for a fresh start. Help us to see the shortcomings in our lives and look to You for the answers to our problems. Give us a new vision of what life can be like. Teach us to hope, to love, to give and to have faith. Lord, we need Your mercy.
Leader: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
People: Amen.
SONG OF CONFIDENCE “Days of Elijah” Praise Team
Robin Mark; © 1996 Song Solutions Daybreak
These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the Word of the Lord
And these are the days
Of Your servant Moses
Righteousness being restored
And though these are days
Of great trials
Of famine and darkness and sword
Still we are the voice
In the desert crying
Prepare ye the way of the Lord
Chorus: Behold He comes
Riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun
At the trumpet call
So lift your voice
It’s the year of Jubilee
And out of Zion’s hill
Salvation comes
.
And these are the days of Ezekiel
The dry bones becoming as flesh
And these are the days
Of Your servant David
Rebuilding a temple of praise
And these are the days of the harvest
The fields are as white in the world
And we are the labourers
In Your vineyard
Declaring the Word of the Lord
Chorus
Leader: Let us Pray. Lord Jesus Christ, You are one who is greater than any earthly temple. Strengthen us as we pass on the faith to our families and neighbors so that we may not pass on mere preferences, but the full power of You, our Lord and Savior; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
OLD TESTAMENT READING: Deuteronomy 30:1-3, 15-20
30 “And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you,
2 and return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul,
3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.
16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
17 But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them,
18 I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,
20 loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?
29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’
31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN “Turn Your Eyes on Jesus”
* Congregation and Praise team sing the chorus ONLY.
Chorus: Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
.
O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There’s light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
Chorus
Through death into life everlasting
He passed and we follow Him there
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are
Chorus
His word shall not fail you He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell
Chorus
Sermon
Pastor Terry Merrill
People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the
dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life + everlasting. Amen.
Leader: In peace, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Leader: For all Christians, that we not reject God’s commandments for the doctrine of men, but rather that we be given grace to keep God’s commandments in thought, word and deed, honoring God in all that we do, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Leader: For children of all ages, that they would honor their mother and father, so that they would not despise or anger their parents, but honor them, serve and obey them, and love and cherish them, let us pray to the Lord:
People: Lord, have mercy.
Leader: For those who are physically, emotionally and spiritually suffering on account of illness, [including ____________,] that God would encourage them with His Word and grace, and that He would bless all medical professionals with the skills necessary to alleviate such suffering and pain where it is possible, let us pray to the Lord:
Leader: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
People: Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Ada Ruth Habershon | Andy Griffith | Charles Hutchinson Gabriel | David Huntsinger | Steve Tyrell © Words: Public Domain; Music: 1997 Manteo Enterprises, Inc.; Sparrow Song; EMI Blackwood Music, Inc. (MAIN)
There are loved ones in the glory
Whose dear forms you often miss
When you close your earthly story
Will you join them in their bliss
.
Chorus: Will the circle be unbroken
By and by by and by
In a better home waiting
In the sky in the sky
.
In the joyous days of childhood
Oft they told of wondrous love
Pointed to the dying Savior
Now they dwell with Him above
Chorus
One by one their seats were emptied
One by one they went away
Now the family circle’s broken
Will it be complete one day?
Chorus
Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace.
People: Amen.
