Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER………… God reaches other people through us. Sounds so simple, but we sometimes forget this truth. We are God’s instruments and vessels. The Apostle Paul reminds us in I Corinthians 14 that our words must not be for ourselves alone, but for the building up of the church. Jesus calls Peter to catch other people—to fish for people in today’s Gospel. Who is calling God inviting you to reach for the blessing of knowing God?
Draw me close to You; never let me go.
I lay it all down again,
to hear You say that I’m Your friend.
Help me find the way; bring me back to You.
.
You’re all I want; You’re all I’ve ever needed.
You’re all I want; help me know You are near.
.
You are my desire; no one else will do,
‘cause nothing else could take Your place,
To feel the warmth of Your embrace.
Help me find the way; bring me back to You.
.
You’re all I want; You’re all I’ve ever needed.
You’re all I want; help me know You are near.
Help me know You are near.
Leader: Holy God! Fill us this day with new breath! And we shall be living words of praise!
People: Amen.
OPENING UP ABOUT OURSELVES
Leader: Today we are reminded of the moment in which Peter once said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” We join Peter in recognizing that we are sinful in thoughts, words and deeds. In addition to sin—we also recognize that our first response to God’s Work done in our lives is doubt and fear. We forget that God’s desire is to redeem and grant us salvation.
Silence for Reflection
Leader: Lord, we confess,
People: We lack faith. We see a glimpse of what we ought to be and we know we fall short of the goal. We desire faith that is solid and unchanging, yet we crumble under trials and temptations. We want to be strong, but we know our own weakness. Our sinful condition strips us of any spiritual gain that we humanly devise. Lord, forgive us. Accept us as we are, unworthy for the task, yet gifted for Your purposes. Give us Your gift of faith.
RECEIVING GOOD NEWS
Leader: Our God is a great God and knows our needs for all areas of our life. God knows our weakness and our unbelieving hearts, yet loves us enough to die on a cross and provide forgiveness of our sin. Now the focus is not on the faith that we can muster, but on the great gifts that our Lord gives daily as we live in trust. God has given us the gift of faith, faith for the moment, faith for every trial, faith for every temptation, faith for every difficult situation. Praise God for this inexpressible gift of faith.
People: Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE “Behold What Manner of Love”
Behold what manner of love
the Father has Given unto us!
Behold what manner of Love
the Father has given unto us!
That We should be called
the children of God.
That We should be called
the children of God.
Leader: We pray. O Lord, keep Your family the church continually in the true faith that,
People: Relying on the hope of Your heavenly grace, we may ever be defended by Your mighty power;
Leader: Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
HEARING FROM GOD’S WORD
First Reading: I Corinthians 14:12b-20
Our words must not be for ourselves, but for the building up of others.
12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 13 Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful.
15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up.
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
5 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.
7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”
11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN “Hark the Voice of Jesus Calling”
Hark, the voice of Jesus calling,
“Who will go and work today?
Fields are white and harvests waiting,
Who will bear the sheaves away?”
.
Loud and long the master calls you;
Rich reward he offers free.
Who will answer, gladly saying,
“Here am I. Send me, send me?”
.
If you cannot speak like angels,
If you cannot preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus;
You can say he died for all.
.
If you cannot rouse the wicked
With the judgment’s dread alarms,
You can lead the little children
To the Savior’s waiting arms.
.
If you cannot be a watchman
Standing high on Zion’s wall,
Pointing out the path to heaven,
Off’ring life and peace to all,
.
With your prayers and with
your bounties
You can do what God demands;
You can be like faithful Aaron,
Holding up the prophet’s hands.
.
Let none hear you idly saying
“There is nothing I can do,”
While the multitudes are dying
And the master calls for you.
.
Take the task he gives you gladly;
Let his work your pleasure be.
Answer quickly when he calls you,
“Here am I. Send me, send me?”
SERMON
“Be Before You Do”
Pastor Jeremy Lucke
I believe in God, who has created all things and continues to create new life within us… I believe in Jesus, son of God, son of man, the Savior of the world. By His life, His death and resurrection, I can know the true depth of human possibility, and experience the true joy of an abundant life…I believe that the Holy Spirit is present, now and always, calling us to faith, giving us gifts and empowering us for service…I believe that the community of believers called the church can experience the fullness of life through the word, the sacraments, and all that we do.
OFFERINGS GATHERED
We give our offerings as a sign of our lives offered to God.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

Who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,

And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen

ANNOUNCEMENTS
ONLINE BIBLE STUDY………….. Are you desiring a closer walk with Jesus in 2025? Pastor is holding online zoom sessions to share how you can walk with Jesus in everyday life. Let him know if you’d like to be a part of the discussion and he will share the zoom link with you. This week’s session begins at 10 am on Wednesday and will last 45 minutes. We’ll be discussing how important it is to be about the multiplication process. Jesus desires us to make disciples who will then make disciples. This is the why and how a church grows. “See you” on Wednesday!
TABLES OF PEACE……………. Would you like to get to know the members of the congregation better? If so, consider signing up to join a Tables of Peace group. Each group gets together monthly either at the church or in someone’s home to share a meal and engage in conversation. It’s a great way to socialize with your Peace family. The sign-up sheets for February to April are in the hallway between the narthex and the fellowship hall.
FREEZER MEAL MINISTRY…………… Peace makes meals to help those who are in need of a meal. Those in need of a meal could really be anyone in the congregation. It could be someone recovering from surgery. It could be someone who is going through a tough transition in life. It could be someone running low on supplies. Consider utilizing this ministry for your needs. The team is meeting this Thursday to cook meals. If you’d like to help, contact Janette or let Pastor know.

Treats can be dropped off on the kitchen counter on Thursday or Friday morning. Consider donating too. As of February 4, there are still eight openings.
PHILOMATH ROTARY………….. The Philomath Rotary is meeting on February 18th at noon to hear a presentation by Mr. Gem Munro, the co-founder of Amarok Society. Amarok exists to help people gain an education. Did you know that every month–6 million children turn 10 without knowing how to read? Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Lindy if you will be attending so the proper amount of food can be ordered.
BACKPACK MINISTRY WORK PARTY…………… On Monday, February 17th at 11:00 am, we will be having our last backpack work party for the year. The party lasts about an hour and needs volunteers to help place warming items (hats and scarves) into a backpack, as well as hygiene items and food/snack offerings. The plan is to pack 110 backpacks. Please see Diane Crocker if you have any questions!
COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE……………… Philomath Community Services is organizing a food drive that will benefit the food bank and the PCS Gleaners. We are looking for volunteers to help distribute information tags and bags to the doorknobs of certain areas in Philomath. This will happen on Saturday, February 22 from 9 am to 11 am. The bags will be picked up on March 1 from 9 am to 11 am. Can you help? We hope so as the need is great. Please let the Pastor know if you could assist. Thank you!
