Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER…………… ………… In today’s Gospel, the man who fell among thieves in the parable of the Good Samaritan did nothing, but he was helped, nonetheless. That’s how our Lord, our own Good Samaritan, wants to treat us. The commands in the Old Testament are how to pass on His love to all whom we meet. Our worship today is time to remember to do nothing except live the life God has so graciously bestowed on us.

RINGING OF THE BELL (Following the ringing of the bell we gather ourselves in silence to prepare for worship)

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

OPENING HYMN           “The Trees of the Field”

Stuart Dauermann; Arr. by Henry Wiens; © 1975, Lillenas Publishing Co.

You shall go out with joy

and be led forth with peace.

The mountains and the hills

will break forth before you;

There’ll be shouts of joy,

and all of the trees of the field

will clap, will clap their hands.

.

Chorus:                   And all the trees of the field

will clap their hands {clap, clap},

The trees of the field

will clap their hands {clap, clap}.

The trees of the field

will clap their hands {clap, clap},

while you go out with joy.

(Repeat All)

Twila Paris; 1985 Jubilee Communications Inc. (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing); Mountain Spring Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing)

Your only Son no sin to hide

But You have sent Him from Your side

To walk upon this guilty sod

And to become the Lamb of God

.

Chorus:             Oh Lamb of God sweet Lamb of God

I love the holy Lamb of God

Oh wash me in His precious blood

My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

.

Your gift of love they crucified

They laughed and scorned Him as He died

The humble King they named a fraud

And sacrificed the Lamb of God

I was so lost I should have died

But You have brought me to Your side

To be led by Your staff and rod

And to be called a lamb of God

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

FIRST LESSON              Hebrews 1:1-4 and 2:1-4

Christ: the Final Word

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People:  Thanks be to God.

Holy GOSPEL:                     Luke 10:25-37

The Good Samaritan

25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to You, O Christ.

National Youth Gathering

COMMISSIONING OF YOUTH AND ADULT LEADERS FOR THE NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING

Leader: Friends in Christ, you are about to begin a journey—one that will gather you with 20,000 fellow believers in New Orleans, Louisiana, to explore what it means to ENDURE in faith as Jesus did for us. You go as followers of Jesus, gathered in worship, learning, and service. These coming days will stretch and grow you as you celebrate your identity in Christ and explore what it means to run with endurance the race set before you.

Adult: At the Gathering, you will learn that the race of faith isn’t always easy. Life can be exhausting, complicated, and confusing. But you do not run alone—God has given you a great cloud of witnesses and the presence of His Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide you.

Youth: Let us run with endurance the race set before us.

Adult: You will hear again and again: your worth is not in what you do or how strong you feel, but in the One who endured the cross for you. Jesus is the author and perfecter of your faith.

Youth: Let us run with endurance the race set before us.

Adult: At the Gathering, you’ll experience the beauty of Christ’s Church gathered to worship, study, and serve as one body.

Youth: Let us run with endurance the race set before us.

Leader: As members of this congregation, we’ve watched you grow as Children of God and prepare your hearts for this journey. Now it’s time to go. You go as representatives of this congregation and of Christ, sharing the Good News of the Gospel wherever you are. You will be asked to approach the Gathering as an opportunity to put aside what weighs you down and learn, worship, and be still in the presence of God alongside thousands of others. As you go—will you encourage and challenge one another, represent Christ and our congregation with grace, and with open hearts listen to all God will teach you?

Youth: Yes, with the help of God.

Leader:  Go in peace and joy.  Be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us.  The almighty and most merciful God, the Father, the + Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you, and bless and strengthen you for faithful service this summer and beyond.

Leader:  In this family of believers whom You have called, gathered, and enlightened through Your Spirit, grant that You would open the hearts and minds of Your people to the truth of Your Word.  For those who have yet to know of the joy of being heirs of Your kingdom, connect us with them and work through us to proclaim Your love, mercy and grace.  Hear these prayers and all others we lift to You, almighty Father, in the name of Your dear Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
