Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER……………. In 1969, a pop song titled “Love (Can Make You Happy)” was recorded by a group of vocalists called Mercy. Although it rose toward the top of the national music charts, it became another in a long line of “one hit wonders”—single hits by groups that were never heard from again after their initial successful number. Fame in the musical world can be fleeting. Reading through the Psalms, we are reminded that our gracious God is with us for the distance of our life and beyond, attending to us with His great goodness and limitless mercy. Two of those reassuring verses are these: “For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 100:5) and “As for You, O Lord, You will not restrain Your mercy from me; Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness will ever preserve me!” (Psalm 40:11). By his grace, we can sing of the mercy of our God forever!

RINGING OF THE BELL…………….We take a few moments in silence to prepare our hearts for worship.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart

To see You high and lifted up
Shining in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

I want to see You
I want to see You

CALLING ON GOD

Leader:  In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

People:  Amen.

Leader:  I am Jesus’ little lamb, Ever glad at heart I am;

People:  For my shepherd gently guides me,

Leader:  Knows my need and well provides me, Loves me ev’ry day the same,

People:  Even calls me by my name.

 I am Jesus’ Little Lamb

Leader:  Let us confess our sins to God our Father, beginning with a time for silent prayer.

~~~~~ (In a time of silence, we reflect on our great need for Jesus’ saving work.) ~~~~~
Leader:  With confidence in Christ, let us confess our sins to God our Father.
People:  Merciful God, You never fail to come to us by Your Word and Spirit.  Your Word alone gives life, but we are distracted from receiving and obeying Your Word.  In our thinking, speaking, and doing, we have done what Your Word forbids, and we have failed to do what Your Word commands.  Thank You for being a wonderful Father and a merciful Savior!  Bring us again to the foot of Jesus’ cross that we may receive the forgiveness we so desperately need.  Amen.
Leader:  Almighty God, in His great mercy, has given His Son to die for you and, for Jesus’ sake, He forgives you all of your sins.  I announce God’s grace to you in this forgiveness—your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
PRAISE TEAM SONG          “Who You Say I am”
By: Reuben Morgan Ben Fielding; © 2017 Hillsong Music Publishing (admin. Capitol CMG Publishing)
Who am I that the highest King
Would welcome me
I was lost but He brought me in
Oh His love for me
Oh His love for me
.
Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am
.
Free at last
He has ransomed me,
His grace runs deep
While I was a slave to sin
Jesus died for me
Yes He died for me
.
Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am
In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God… Yes I am!
.
I am chosen not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me not against me
I am who You say I am!
I am who You say I am!
.
Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am!
In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God… Yes I am!
SERVICE OF THE WORD
PRAYER FOCUS OF THE DAY
Leader:  Let us Pray. Heavenly Father, though we do not deserve Your goodness, still You provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your gifts, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve you in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
 People:  Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
FIRST LESSON:                   Ephesians 2:11-22
Together we are fellow citizens with God’s people.
11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands—
12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility
15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,
16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.
18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Reader:  This is the Word of the Lord.
People:  Thanks be to God.
HOLY GOSPEL:                Mark 6:30-44
Jesus miraculously feeds thousands of people.
30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them.
34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.
35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”
38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.
40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.
41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People:  Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN                “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High”
By: Rick Founds; © 1989 and this arr. © 1990 by Maranatha! Music
Lord, I lift Your name on high,
Lord, I love to sing Your praises.
I’m so glad You’re in my life,
I’m so glad You came to save us.
You came from heaven to earth to show the way,
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay;
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky;
Lord, I lift Your Name on high.
Lord, I lift Your name on high,
Lord, I love to sing Your praises.
I’m so glad You’re in my life,
I’m so glad You came to save us.
You came from heaven to earth to show the way,
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay;
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky;
Lord, I lift Your Name on high.
CATECHISM REMINDER                         The First Article
Leader: We have begun our worship in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Let us speak together the words of the Apostles’ Creed regarding the First Person of the Trinity and reflect on our faith using the words written by Martin Luther in the Small Catechism.
People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
Leader: What does this mean?
People: I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.
He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.
He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.
OFFERING
We offer our thanksgiving for what God has first given us—ourselves, our time, our possessions.
OFFERTORY
PRAYER
Leader: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Leader: Loving God, grant us the freedom to let anxiety be. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Loving God, grant us wise and faithful pastors who speak Your truth in love and Your love in truth. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Loving God, grant healing to the sick and all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, (especially…………….). Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Into Your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus, our Lord.
People: Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever.  Amen
CLOSING SONG              “They’ll Know We are Christians”
Author: Peter Scholtes; Tune St. Brendan’s. © 1966, F.E.L. Publications, assigned to The Lorenz Corp., 1991
We are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
We are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
And we pray that all unity
may one day be restored:
And they’ll know we are Christians
by our love, by our love,
Yes they’ll know we are Christians
by our love.
.
We will walk with each other,
we will walk hand in hand,
We will walk with each other,
we will walk hand in hand,
And together we’ll spread the news
that God is in our land:
And they’ll know we are Christians
by our love, by our love,
Yes they’ll know we are Christians
by our love.
.
All praise to the Father,
from whom all things come,
And all praise to Christ Jesus,
his only Son,
And all praise to the Spirit,
who makes us one:
And they’ll know we are Christians
by our love, by our love,
Yes they’ll know we are Christians
by our love.
Dismissal
Leader:  Go in peace! Serve the Lord!
