Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER… Notice the brightness that comes from being outside. A bright, sunny day can lift our spirits; a dark, cloudy day can have the opposite effect. Throughout the Scriptures, God is associated with brightness and light. The early church father, Ambrose, once wrote, “O Splendor of God’s glory bright, O Thou that bringest light from light…..” God’s brightness reminds us of His promises to us—they are not dim and hard to see, they clearly show God’s commitment to us.

Give ear to my words, O Lord

Consider my meditation.

Hearken unto the voice of my cry,

My King and my God.

For unto Thee will I pray,

My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning

O, Lord, in the morning

Will I direct my prayer,

Unto Thee and will look up.

(Repeat all)

OPENING UP TO GOD AND ONE ANOTHER

Leader:  Jesus invites you: “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

People:  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle       and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Leader:  Let us come to Jesus in a time of silent prayer.

~~~ We reflect upon our need for Jesus’ rest and forgiveness. ~~~
Leader:  Almighty God, heavenly Father,
People:  We confess that we are burdened by our sin.  What we want to do, we don’t do.  What we end up doing, we know that we are not supposed to do.  We feel trapped.  Your Word teaches us that we cannot escape our sinfulness.  Only in Your mercy is there rest for our souls and relief from the burdens of our hearts.  Father fill us again with the assurance of the cross and empty tomb so that we may receive again the victory that is our through Jesus.  Amen.
Leader:  The burdens that are so heavy for you are light for Jesus!  As you have now confessed your sins, it is my privilege and joy to announce to you that Jesus has taken away your burdens by His death and resurrection.  According to His own command, I, as a servant of Jesus, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
SONG:                “Blessed Assurance” Praise Team
By: Fanny J. Crosby & Mrs. J.F. Knapp; ©1971 by William J. Glaither. The Other Song Book.
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
People:  And also with you.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
Old Testament:                                                     Genesis 9:8-17
God makes a covenant with Noah.
Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you,
10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth.
11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
Reader:  This is the Word of the Lord.
People:  Thanks be to God.
Gospel:                                         Mark 6:45-56
Jesus walks on the Sea of Galilee and heals the sick people.
45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.
47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.
48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them,
49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.
53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him
55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was.
56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People:  Praise to You, O Christ.
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE
SERMON HYMN  “Amazing Grace My Chains Are Gone
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Chorus: My chains are gone I’ve been set free
My God my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
Chorus
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
WE SHARE OUR FAITH
People:  I believe in God, who has created all things and continues to create new life within us.
I believe in Jesus, son of God, son of man, the Savior of the world.  By His life, His death and resurrection, I can know the true depth of human possibility, and experience the true joy of an abundant life.
I believe that the Holy Spirit is present, now and always, calling us to faith, giving us gifts and empowering us for service.  I believe that the community of believers called the church can experience the fullness of life through the word, the sacraments, and all that we do.  Amen.
OFFERING
We offer our thanksgiving for what God has first given us—ourselves, our time, our possessions.
OFFERTORY
PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
Leader: Let us pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ and for everyone in need.
Leader: Heavenly Father, You have made us Your own dear children through Holy Baptism. Strengthen us with power by Your Holy Spirit in our inner being, that Your Son may dwell in our hearts through faith and that we would be rooted and grounded in love. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, as You preserved Noah and his family and brought forth new life from the ark under the promise of Your covenant, bless now our families also. Make marriages strong and fruitful according to Your will. Let Your Word rule in every home, uniting its members in forgiveness and causing Your Son to dwell in every heart through faith. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Heavenly Father, we Your people cry out for Your healing upon [_____________ and] all those in need. Even as You sent Your Son to heal and make whole, teach them ever to trust in Your love, for You never leave nor forsake them. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: O Lord, do not allow our hearts to become hardened by indifference or frustration in this world. Give us understanding and courage to sustain us through this valley of sorrows. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Heavenly Father, You name every family in heaven and on earth. We give thanks for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have finished their course in faith and now rest from their labors. Preserve us in the faith so that Christ might dwell in our hearts richly until that day when we join them around Your throne; for the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever.  Amen
CLOSING HYMN:                                                “In the Garden”
By: C. Austin Miles. Public Domain.
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.
Chorus:                         And He walks with me,
and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
Chorus
I’d stay in the garden with Him
Tho’ the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro’ the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.
Chorus
