Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health and safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer, and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors. Offerings may be placed in the plates by the doors as we exit the sanctuary.

As We Gather…………… We are thinking about Christmas today. Christmas?!? It’s the middle of summer. The prophet Zechariah says in our Old Testament lesson, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion.” Zechariah shared these words with God’s people when they were feeling a great darkness in their lives. In our Gospel text Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Christmas is that time when we hear about the Savior that brings rest and comfort to our souls. You may be saying today, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”

Seek ye first the kingdom of God,
And His righteousness.
And all these things
shall be added unto you!
Allelu, Alleluia!
.
Man shall not live by bread alone,
But by ev’ry word
That proceeds
from the mouth of God.
Allelu, Alleluia!
.
Ask, and it shall be given unto you;
Seek, and ye shall find.
Knock, and the door
shall be opened unto you.
Allelu, Alleluia!
Allelu, Alleluia (repeat)
Leader: This is the day which the Lord has made;
People: let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
Leader: From the rising of the sun to its setting,
People: the name of the Lord is to be praised. Psalm 113:3
Leader: At the invitation of God our Savior, let us bring our weariness and burdens to Him, that His forgiveness may rescue us and restore to us the joy of His salvation.
People: For if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Leader: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.
People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean and cannot free ourselves. Even though we rejoice at the joy of Christmas, daily our sins of thought, word, and deed cause us grief. We have forgotten You even when we needed You the most. Our love for our neighbors has faded. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus, we come at His invitation seeking the true rest of the forgiveness of sins. Amen.
Leader: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Upon this, your confession, I by virtue of my office as a called and ordained servant of the Word announce the grace of God to you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Leader: Let us pray. Gracious God, our heavenly Father, Your mercy attends us all our days. Be our strength and support amid the wearisome changes of this world, and at life’s end grant us Your promised rest and the full joys of Your salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
All: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
Old Testament Lesson Zechariah 9:9-12
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
Gospel Lesson Matthew 11:25-30
25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;
26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.
HYMN OF THE DAY: “What Child Is This (Greensleeves)”
Unknown | William Chatterton Dix; Words: Public Domain; Music: Public Domain
What Child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap, is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping.
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
.
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding.
Good Christian, fear for sinners here,
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe the Son of Mary.
.
So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh.
Come peasant king to own Him.
The King of kings salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise the song on high,
The Virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe the Son of Mary.
MESSAGE
Pastor Jeremy Lucke
People: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And was born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate.
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
Leader: O God of grace, God of glory, “Now sing we, now rejoice, Now raise to heaven our voice.” For having first come to us in the person of Your Son, You have lifted us out of our sorrowful bondage to sin and death and raised us to the freedom and newness of eternal life. You have washed us in baptismal waters and renewed us in faith given by Your Holy Spirit. We sing and rejoice in thankfulness and praise. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Cause the joy of Your gracious reign of peace and hope to continue to blossom and grow throughout the world. To that end, bless and sustain all of Your people—pastors and all who joyfully give witness to Your grace. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Eternal Lord and ruler of all, save and defend our country. Graciously regard all who have been set in positions of authority among us, that, guided by Your Spirit, we may be governed in peace and safety. Strengthen and protect those who serve in the armed forces of our country that they be upheld in integrity and with honor. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Continue to bless the earth and make it fruitful, bringing forth in abundance all that is needed for the support of our lives. Bless our homes and families that we may dwell together in peace, sharing in Your blessings. Be with all who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any adversity. Grant Your peace and healing, and above all, faith in Your never-failing promises. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and take them to heart that, by the patience and comfort of Your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give + you peace.
People: Amen.
