Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC

AS WE GATHER…….. The Easter season is coming to a close. Today we are reading one of the final prayers Jesus shared before his death, the high priestly prayer. We are reminded that Jesus is praying for us, for our faith, and for our unity in the faith. It should be of great comfort to us that on the night of His betrayal, our Lord does not pray for Himself but for His disciples and those who will believe through their witness. Jesus is still praying for us. United in faith, we are strengthened to serve our Lord and our neighbors.

RINGING OF THE BELL……..After the ringing of the bell we take a moment in silence to prepare our hearts and minds for today’s worship

OPENING PRAYER

Leader:  Almighty God, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts in worship today that He may rule, direct and comfort us.   We humbly ask that the Holy Spirit would go with us today so that we can be strengthened to do good works for others.  We pray this in the name of Jesus, Your Son, our Lord.

People:  Amen.

WE CONFESS OUR SINS

Leader:  Dear friends, Jesus said, “I will be with you always.”  Let us take Him at His word and come into His presence, sharing our great need as we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.

People:  I confess to almighty God all my sins with which I have offended You, especially the sin of trying to go it alone without You.  On my own, I am weak, and sin so easily makes me forget Your will for my life.  Because of Your merciful death on the cross and in the power of Your resurrection from the dead, let me hear from You the words of Your grace and forgiveness and new life.  Amen.

RECEIVE GOD’S FORGIVENESS

Leader:  In keeping with His promise, the Lord sends another helper to deliver His own words of forgiveness.  So now, as a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Leader:  Let us pray.

Leader: O King of glory, Lord of hosts, uplifted in triumph far above all heavens, leave us not without consolation but send us the Spirit of truth whom You promised from the Father, for You live and reign with Him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People: Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

EPISTLe:                        I John 5:9-15

“Whoever has the Son has life.”

If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.

10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.

11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Reader:  This is the Word of the Lord.

People:  Thanks be to God.

HOLY Gospel:                        John 17:11b-19

Jesus prays that we may be one as He and the Father are One.

11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.

12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to You, O Christ.

SERMON HYMN        “It is Well With My Soul”

Ben Fielding, Horatio Gates Spafford, Philip Paul Bliss, Reuben Morgan; 2011 Hillsong Music Publishing Australia (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing)

When peace, like a river,

attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll;

Whatever my lot,

thou hast taught me to say,

It is well, it is well with my soul.

.

Chorus:                           It is well (it is well)

with my soul, (with my soul)

It is well, it is well with my soul.

.

Though Satan should buffet,

the trials should come,

Let this blest assurance control,

That Christ has regarded

my helpless estate,

And hath shed his own

blood for my soul.

Chorus

My sin oh, the bliss of

this glorious tho’t:

My sin not in part,

but the whole

Is nail’d to the cross

and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

O my soul.

Chorus

And, Lord, haste the day

when the faith shall be sight,

The clouds be roll’d back as a scroll,

The trump shall resound

and the Lord shall descend,

“Even so,” it is well with my soul.

Chorus

APOSTLES’ CREED

People:      I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And was born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven

And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy Christian Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.  Amen.

OFFERING

We offer our thanksgiving for what God has first given us—ourselves, our time, our possessions.

Leader:  Let us pray together in Christ Jesus for all people according to their needs.

People:  hear our prayer.

Leader:  O God, help the leaders of the civil realm both here and around the world to follow paths of justice for all people, protect the weakest and poorest in every society, and help all leaders to practice honesty and integrity in all their affairs.  Lord, in Your mercy,

People:  hear our prayer

Leader:  O God, be with all people who suffer affliction of body, mind, or spirit (especially……).  Grant that all people look to You and experience healing and wholeness according to Your good and gracious will.  Lord, in Your mercy,

People:  hear our prayer.

Leader:  O God, Your Son, Jesus, loved and honored His mother, Mary. Bless all mothers today on Mother’s Day, and especially our own. Grant that we, having been taught Your way from them, may, by our fruitful lives, be a blessing to them.  Lord, in Your mercy,

People:  hear our prayer.

Leader:  All glory, honor, power, and might be unto You, dear Father, who with Your Son, Jesus Christ, are living and reigning in communion and love with the Holy Spirit, ever one God, now and ever unto the ages of ages.

People:  Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom,

And the power, and the glory,

Forever and ever.  Amen

CLOSING BLESSING

CLOSING HYMN:       “Let All Things Now Living”

Katherine Kennicott Davis; 1939. Renewed 1966 E.C. Schirmer Music Company (Admin. by ECS Publishing Corporation)

Let all things now living

A song of thanksgiving

To God the Creator triumphantly raise,

Who fashioned and made us,

Protected and stayed us,

Who still guides us on to the end of our days.

.

God’s banners are o’er us,

His light goes before us,

A pillar of fire shining forth in the night,

Till shadows have vanished

And darkness is banished,

As forward we travel from light into light

.

His law He enforces,

The stars in their courses

And sun in its orbit obediently shine;

The hills and the mountains,

The rivers and fountains,

The deeps of the ocean proclaim Him divine.

.

We too should be voicing

Our love and rejoicing;

With glad adoration a song let us raise

Till all things now living

Unite in thanksgiving:

“To God in the highest Hosanna and praise!”

Dismissal

Leader:  Go in peace! Serve the Lord!

People:  Thanks be to God!
