Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER… The ending of the liturgical year speaks of the end of all things. Jesus spoke plainly about the end of the world. There are signs the end is coming. Jesus’ teaching seems to elicit only question marks on our part. “When?” “What?” How?” No matter what comes we remember that we are “clothed in His righteousness alone, redeemed to stand before His throne! On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.” We are comforted today knowing that we are eternally secure and anchored to Jesus.
RINGING OF THE BELL
We take a few moments in silence to prepare our hearts and minds for worship.
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
BEING HONEST ABOUT OURSELVES…
Leader: We confess our sins. Kind and loving Father,
People: we confess to You our sinfulness both of nature and of choice. We often lose heart in the face of obstacles, difficulties, and suffering. We fail to call upon You for help, and we fail to keep trusting in Your goodness. Hear us now for Jesus’ sake. Forgive our sins and lead us onward to live each day in Your presence by the aid of Your Holy Spirit.
YOU ARE FORGIVEN
Leader: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE: “You are My All in All”
Dennis Jernigan; 1991 Shepherd’s Heart Music, Inc. (Admin. by PraiseCharts Publishing, Inc.)
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the Treasure that I seek,
You are my All in All.
Seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord to give up I’d be a fool.
You are my All in All.
.
Chorus: Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
.
Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
rising again I bless Your name.
You are my All in All.
When I fall down, You pick me up;
When I am dry, You fill my cup.
You my All in All
Chorus
SERVICE OF THE WORD
Leader: Let us pray. O Lord, almighty and ever-living God, You have given exceedingly great and precious promises to those who trust in You.
People: Rule and govern our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that we may live and abide forever in Your Son,
Leader: who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
The First Lesson: Hebrews 10:11-25
The full assurance of faith
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.
14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,”
17 then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” 18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
The Gospel Lesson: Mark 13:1-13
Signs of the end of the age
13 And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!”
2 And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” 3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4 “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5 And Jesus began to say to them, “See that no one leads you astray. 6 Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray.
7 And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet.
8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.
9 “But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them. 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.
11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
12 And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13 And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
.
Chorus: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
.
When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
Chorus
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
Chorus
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
Chorus
SERMON
Pastor Jeremy Lucke
People: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING
The offerings gathered are a sign of our whole lives offered to God in humble gratitude for his greatest of all offerings, his Son offered for our salvation.
Leader: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Leader: Lord of the Church, strengthen the resolve and increase the joy of Your people as they share the news of all the marvelous things You have done. Through their efforts and the blessing of the Holy Spirit, grant that many come to faith and rejoice on Your return. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.

People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Heavenly Father, hear the prayers of those in ill health, sorrow, or stress, (including…); bring Your wholeness to them that they return thanks and praise to You. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: O Holy Spirit, giver of all good gifts, move musicians and poets, artists and actors to use their talents to praise Your name, confront the ills of society, and inspire those who hear and see them to acts of love and good works. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Lord Jesus, accompany all who travel on the sea or land, in air or space; give insight to those who must deal with changing weather; and provide for all who farm, transport, and distribute the bounty of Your good creation. Lord, in Your mercy,

SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
“Let Us Break Bread Together”
Text: Negro spiritual; Tune: Negro spiritual
Let us break bread together
on our knees,
Let us break bread together
on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
Oh Lord, have mercy on me!
.
Let us drink wine together
on our knees,
Let us drink wine together
on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
Oh Lord, have mercy on me!
.
Let us bow ’round the altar
on our knees,
Let us bow ’round the altar
on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
Oh Lord, have mercy on me!
.
Let us praise God together
on our knees,
Let us praise God together
on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
Oh Lord, have mercy on me!

Consider all the worlds, Thy hands have made

Thy pow’r thru’out, The universe displayed

How great Thou art, How great Thou art
Then sings my soul, My Savior God to Thee

And hear the birds, Sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down, From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, And feel the gentle breeze

And when I think that God his Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in.
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing

CLOSING SONG: “Now Thank We All Our God”
Text: Martin Rinkhart, 1586-1649; tr. Catherine Winkworth, 1829-1878; Tune: Johann Cruger, 1598-1662
Now thank we all our God
With hearts and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,
In whom his world rejoices;
Who, from our mothers’ arms,
Has blest us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
And still is ours today.
.
Oh, may this bounteous God
Through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts
And blessed peace to cheer us,
And keep us in his grace,
And guide us when perplexed,
And free us from all harm
In this world and the next.
.
All praise and thanks to God
The Father now be given,
The Son, and him who reigns
With them in highest heaven,
The one eternal God,
Whom earth and heav’n adore;
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.
Leader: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!

Join the Advent Jesse Tree Project! This activity is a special way for everyone to mark the days of Advent as we trace Jesus’ lineage from creation to the manger. We will work together to make, collect, 3D prints, or color 25 different ornaments that tell the story of Jesus. We need all abilities to make this work! Contact Rachel Harrington if you are interested in joining the fun. Information about the project will be shared in the Fellowship Hall after service on November 3rd, 10th and 17th. Find out more at: https://www.faithward.org/jesse-tree/.
Vina Moses Center Christmas Program. For many years, Peace has supported the annual Vina Moses Center Christmas program. We will place gift tags on Sunday, November 24th, on the side windows of the front door that contain the Christmas gift wishes of children from financially challenged families in Benton County. We hope that you will take a tag or two. If you do not have an opportunity to get a tag but still would like to participate, we are asking you to consider purchasing a new toy, game, book, or puzzle for the program. The children participating in the program are between infancy and 18 years of age. For many children, the gift that they receive through this program will be the only gift they receive this Christmas.
Please bring the unwrapped toy, game, book, or puzzle to the worship service on Sunday, December 8th. We will collect them in the Narthex. If you are unable to bring the toy to the service, please contact George Abele at 541-730-0476 or [email protected] to make arrangements to pick up the toy. Thank you!

Jessica Hougen, Executive Director of the Benton County Historical Society and Philomath Benton County Museum will give a presentation on the history of the Philomath historic college/museum building on Tuesday, November 19th. This will be a fascinating presentation providing details about the museum and some historical tidbits from Benton County. We hope you can come and remember – lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Lindy or Dan if you will be attending so we can plan the number of meals.
Philomath Community Services Holiday Cheer.
