Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER…………………As you look around at fellow worshipers today, you might notice the many families from which we come.  Some families are serious, some quirky, some similar to us, some very different from us.  As we recognize All Saints’ Day, however, we also celebrate that, as believers in Christ, we are members of the same family, the most special of families.  Through water and the Word, each one of us was made a part of this family at Baptism.  As today’s Epistle puts it, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” (I John 3:1).  As we look at those around us, we remember we are brothers and sisters in Christ.  We also give thanks for those members of the family of God whom we cannot see with our own eyes, those who have died in Christ.

RINGING OF THE BELL……………. After the ringing of the bell, in silence, we prepare our hearts and minds for worship.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

OPENING PROCESSIONAL          “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”

By: Oliver Holden; Arr. Roger Nachtway; Words: Public Domain Music: Public Domain

All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!

Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem

And crown him Lord of all.

Bring forth the royal diadem

And crown him Lord of all.

.

Crown him, you martyrs of our God,

Who from His altar call;

Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod

And crown him Lord of all.

Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod

And crown him Lord of all.

.

O seed of Israel’s chosen race

Now ransomed from the fall,

Hail him who saves you by his grace

And crown him Lord of all.

Hail him who saves you by his grace

And crown him Lord of all.

.

Hail him, you heirs of David’s line,

Whom David Lord did call—

The God incarnate, man divine—

And crown him Lord of all.

The God incarnate, man divine—

And crown him Lord of all.

CALLING ON GOD

Leader:  In the name of the Father,

People:  who created us.

Leader:  In the name of the + Son,

People:  who redeemed us.

Leader:  In the name of the Holy Spirit,

People:  who sanctifies and keeps us in the one true faith.  Amen.

OPENING UP TO GOD………..

Leader:  In today’s Epistle, John writes, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.”  Yet, we do not live our lives as if we are children of God.

People:  Father in heaven, forgive us for not always living in ways that honor Your name, which we bear as Your baptized children.  You lavishly love us, but we have not shown love for You or for our neighbor.  Because we are by nature sinful and unclean, we set our minds only on the things of this world and not on the world to come.

Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life.  Amen.

……….AND RECEIVE GOD’S FORGIVENESS

Leader:  Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; “but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.  And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure” (1 John 3:2-3).  As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Leader:  Let us Pray. Almighty and everlasting God,

People:  You knit together Your faithful people of all times and places into one holy communion, the mystical Body of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Leader:  Grant us so to follow Your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that, together with them, we may come to the unspeakable joys You have prepared for those who love You;

People:  through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

FIRST LESSON:            Revelation 7:9-17

God promises to wipe every tear away.

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?”

14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15  “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.

16  They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.

17  For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God!

SECOND LESSON:              I John 3:1-3

God loves us and calls us His sons and daughters.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God!

HOLY GOSPEL:            Matthew 5:1-12

Jesus teaches the Beatitudes.

Leader:  Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain, and when He sat down, His disciples came to Him.  And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:  Blessed are the poor in spirit,

People:  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Leader:  Blessed are those who mourn,

People:  for they shall be comforted.

Leader:  Blessed are the meek,

People:  for they shall inherit the earth.

Leader:  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

People:  for they shall be satisfied.

Leader:  Blessed are the merciful,

People:  for they shall receive mercy.

Leader:  Blessed are the pure in heart,

People:  for they shall see God.

Leader:  Blessed are the peacemakers,

People:  For they shall be called sons of God.

Leader:  Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

People:  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Leader:  Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account.  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to You, O Christ.

SERMON HYMN:              “For All the Saints”

Text: William H. How, 1823-1897, alt. Tune: RVaughn Williams, 1872-1958; ©1978 published by Augsburg Publishing House, Minneapolis & Board of Publication, Lutheran Church in America, Philadelphia

For all the saints who

 from their labors rest,

All who by faith before

the world confessed,

Your name, O Jesus,

be forever blest.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

You were their rock,

their fortress, and their might;

You, Lord, their captain in

the well-fought fight;

You, in the darkness drear,

their one true light.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

But then there breaks

a yet more glorious day:

The saints triumphant

rise in bright array;

The King of glory

passes on his way.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

.

From earth’s wide bounds,

from ocean’s farthest coast,

Through gates of pearl streams

in the countless host,

Singing to Father, Son,

and Holy Ghost:

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

APOSTLES’ CREED

People:     I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And was born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate.

Was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy Christian Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.  Amen.

“It is Well With My Soul”

Ben Fielding, Horatio Gates Spafford, Philip Paul Bliss, Reuben Morgan; 2011 Hillsong Music Publishing Australia (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing)

When peace, like a river,

attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll;

Whatever my lot,

thou hast taught me to say,

It is well, it is well with my soul.

Chorus:                           It is well (it is well)

with my soul, (with my soul)

It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet,

the trials should come,

Let this blest assurance control,

That Christ has regarded

my helpless estate,

And hath shed his own

blood for my soul.

Chorus

My sin oh, the bliss of

this glorious tho’t:

My sin not in part,

but the whole

Is nail’d to the cross

and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

O my soul.

Chorus

And, Lord, haste the day

when the faith shall be sight,

The clouds be roll’d back as a scroll,

The trump shall resound

and the Lord shall descend,

“Even so,” it is well with my soul.

Chorus

BENEDICTION
