Peace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence.  If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher.  Everyone is welcome.

The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.

Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.

Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.

There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.

Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER…“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it” (Hebrews2:1).  These words from Hebrews speak to us today.  In a culture that is quickly drifting away from the values we once held sacred, it’s imperative for us, as the people of God, to hold firmly to the Word we have heard.  Today as we gather to listen to God’s Word and receive His gifts of grace, we are drawn close to the Redeemer, who has given His life in exchange for ours.

WE CONFESS

Leader:  In a time of silence and prayer, let us approach the Father’s throne of grace.

~~~~~ Silence for reflection ~~~~~
Leader:  We confess together.  Most merciful Father,
People:  we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.  We have drifted from Your commands, choosing to go our own separate ways.  We have not honored You as our Creator, nor have we honored one another in love.  By the cleansing work of our Redeemer, remove from us our sins of thought, word, and deed so that we worship You in Spirit and in truth. In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
Leader:  Only in Christ Jesus are we made complete—complete as God’s    creation and completely cleansed of our guilt and sin.  Upon this your confession, I, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, announce His grace to all of you and, in the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People:  Amen.
HYMN OF PRAISE:             “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”
Henry  Van Dyke Arr. from Ludwig van Beethoven; copyright public domain
Joyful, joyful we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of love!
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before thee,
Praising thee, their sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
Drive the gloom of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day.
.
All thy works with joy surround thee,
Earth and heav’n reflect thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around thee,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird, and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in thee.
.
Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother,
 All who live in love are thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Leader:  Let us Pray.  Merciful Father, Your patience and loving-kindness toward us have no end.  Grant that by Your Holy Spirit we may always think and do those things that are pleasing in Your sight; through Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People:  Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
FIRST LESSON:                            Hebrews 2:1-13
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,
how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.
It has been testified somewhere,   “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?  You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor,
  putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12 saying,   “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”
13 And again,   “I will put my trust in him.” And again,   “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”
Reader:  This is the Word of the Lord.
People:  Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL:                                       Mark 10:2-16
And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.”
And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.
11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
Leader:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People:  Praise to You, O Christ.
SERMON HYMN                “All Hail the Power”
By: Oliver Holden; Arr. Roger Nachtway; Words: Public Domain Music: Public Domain
All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all.
.
Crown him, you martyrs of our God,
Who from His altar call;
Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod
And crown him Lord of all.
Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod
And crown him Lord of all.
.
O seed of Israel’s chosen race
Now ransomed from the fall,
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all.
.
Hail him, you heirs of David’s line,
Whom David Lord did call—
The God incarnate, man divine—
And crown him Lord of all.
The God incarnate, man divine—
And crown him Lord of all.
CLOSING HYMN:                     “This is My Father’s World”
Text: Malbie D. Babcock, 1858-1901, Tune: Franklin L. Sheppard, 1852-1930, adapt.; © 1978 by Lutheran Chuch in America, The American Lutheran Church, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cananda, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
This is my Father’s world,
and to my list’ning ears
all nature sings,
and round me rings
the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world;
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought
..
This is my Father’s world;
the birds their carols raise;
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world;
He shines in all that’s fair.
in the rustling
grass I hear him pass;
He speaks to me ev’ry where.
.
This is my Father’s world;
oh, let me not forget
that, though the wrong
seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world,
why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is king, let the heavens ring;
God reigns, let the earth be glad!
Dismissal
Leader:  Go in peace! Serve the Lord!
