Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

AS WE GATHER…………. Prayer will take a different look in today’s worship. We’ll be praying through the words of Psalm 37. Psalm 37 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This is encouragement to center ourselves on what pleases the Lord. Psalm 37 continues by saying, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” This is encouragement to trust in God’s timing and God’s ability to intercede. Psalm 37 also says, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Our goal today is to be more aligned with God—His ways, His actions, His love.
Leader: In the name of the Father,
People: who created the ocean and the sky, the rivers and the clouds, the rain and the snow.
Leader: In the name of the Son,
People: who stilled the storm of the sea and quieted the thunder with his voice.
Leader: In the name of the Spirit,
People: who hovered over the waters of creation and was present in the winds of Pentecost. Amen.
Leader: Sometimes in life, we don’t know where to go.
People: God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
Leader: Sometimes in life, we wonder what is in store for us.
People: God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
Leader: Sometimes in life, we feel afraid and alone.
People: There is only One we can turn to. With confidence we seek the Lord today.
WE CONFESS
Leader: Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened unto you.”
People: “For everyone who ask receives, and those who seek find, and to each who knocks it will be opened.”
Leader: God knows our needs before we ask and in our asking prepares us to receive the gift of his grace. Let us open our hearts to God’s healing forgiveness and forsake all that separates us from him and from one another. Let us be mindful of all personal evil done in thought, word, and deed and confess to God what has wounded others and us through our sin.
Leader: We confess,
People: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we admit and confess our sinfulness. We have turned away from you and from each other in our thoughts, words, and actions. We do repent and are truly sorry for our sins. Have mercy on us, kind Father, because of the obedience of our Brother, Jesus, your Son. Forgive us all that is past, renew us with the power of the Holy Spirit, and move us to faithful service in the kingdom of Jesus our Lord.
Leader: Almighty God, in His boundless love sent His Son, Jesus, to die and rise for our forgiveness and eternal life. Because of Jesus, we are restored, body and soul. Therefore, by Jesus’ authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
HYMN OF PRAISE: “Oh, How I Love Jesus”
By: Fredrick Whitfield, American Melody © Public Domain
There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest name on earth.
O, how I love Jesus, O,
how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus
Because He first loved me!
.
It tells me of a Savior’s love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner’s perfect plea.
O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus
Because He first loved me!
.
It tells of One whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part
That none can bear below.
O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus
Because He first loved me!
Leader: Let us Pray. O God—You delight not in pomp and show, but in a humble and contrite heart. Too often in our lives we seek after knowledge as if it will solve our problems. We understand Your wisdom is what we need to guide us in life and through our problems. Give us a heart to seek Your wisdom for our lives. We pray this in Jesus’ name.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
FIRST LESSON: I Corinthians 14:1-5
14 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know,
31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him. 33 And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ.

Amazing grace how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found;
Was blind but now I see.
.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
.
Thro’ many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come;
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.
Sermon
“Building Up”
Pastor Jeremy Lucke
People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the
dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life + everlasting. Amen.

But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen

CLOSING HYMN “What a Friend We Have”
Joseph Scriven; Charles C. Converse
What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!
.
Have we trials and temptations,
is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who with all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
take it to the Lord in prayer.
.
Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise,
forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In his arms he’ll take and shield thee,
thou wilt find a solace there.
