Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors.

CHORAL ANTHEM “Hungerin’ In My Soul”
Music and Words by Pepper Cholin; Copyright 2008, Glorysound.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul, uh my soul.
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
.
As the deer pants for water,
so my soul pants for You.
Sometimes I’m feelin’ so cast down
I don’t know what to do.
In the day, let me feel Your love, Lord.
In the night, let me hear Your song.
I will put my hope and faith in You
To praise You my whole life long.
.
But now I’m singin’,
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul, uh my soul.
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my foes.
When you pour your blessings all over me,
my cup will overflow.
Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all my days.
Then I will dwell in the house of the Lord
And forever sing God’s praise.
.
But now I’m singin’,
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
O Lord, there’s a hungerin’ in my soul.
there’s a hungerin’ in my soul, uh my soul.
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
Lord, fill the hungerin’ in my soul.
Fill it up, Lord, and make me whole.
Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
People: And also with you.
WE CONFESS OUR SINS…
Leader: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
People: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
~~~~~ Silence for Reflection ~~~~~
Leader: Most merciful God,
People: we confess that we often forget Your gracious presence and guiding. We are by nature sinful and unclean and, relying on ourselves, have sinned against You in thought, word and deed. By action and inaction, thoughtless words, and failure to profess the faith within us, we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For Jesus’ sake, forgive us and lead us to walk in Your ways.
Leader: Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of Christ, and by his authority, I forgive you all of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE “You Are My All In All”
Dennis Jernigan; 1991 Shepherd’s Heart Music, Inc. (Admin. by PraiseCharts Publishing, Inc.)
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the Treasure that I seek,
You are my All in All.
Seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord to give up I’d be a fool.
You are my All in All.
.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
.
Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
rising again I bless Your name.
You are my All in All.
When I fall down, You pick me up;
When I am dry, You fill my cup.
You my All in All
.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Leader: The Lord be with you
People: And also with you.
Leader: Let us pray. O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son You confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah.
People: Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven;
Leader: through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
THE SCRIPTURE LESSONS
Old Testament Reading Exodus 34:29-35
Moses came down the mountain with the Law in his hands and the glory of the Lord upon his face.
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.
30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them.
32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
34 Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded,
35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God!
Jesus is transfigured in the presence of three disciples.
2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.
4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” 8 And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.
9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, O Christ!
SERMON SONG: “Beautiful Savior”
Text: Gesangbuch, Munster, 1677; tr. Joseph A. Seiss, 1823-1904, Tune: Silesian Folk tune, 1842; 1978 Published by Augsburg Publishing Company, Minneapolis and board of Publication, Lutheran Church in America, Philadelphia
Beautiful Savior, King of creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love thee, Truly I’d serve thee,
Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
.
Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands
Robed in flow’rs of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.
.
Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight,
Bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer,
Than all the angels in the sky.
.
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be thine!
Leader: Let us pray for the Church, the world, and all people in their various needs.
Leader: We give thanks, heavenly Father, that You sent Your Son to be our Savior. Bless all who proclaim His true glory in going to the cross as the atonement for our sins. Grant that His light may shine through us at Peace and wherever people of faith gather. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Lord over all, who has placed the world’s leaders in power, give them opportunity and guidance that they may strive for peace among the nations and rededicate themselves to human liberty and justice for their citizens. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Lord Jesus, guide and protect armed forces deployed and police, fire, and first responders at home. Give them courage and compassion so that we all may live in peace and dignity. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Loving Lord, hear the spoken and silent prayers of those unknown to us—the lonely and forgotten in society, those in broken homes, and all who need nurture, justice, and dignity. We especially pray for our home-bound members. Likewise, we pray for those near and dear to us, (especially……). Use us to surround them with Your love, that they may know Your presence to heal and comfort. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer.
Leader: Father, we pray these things knowing that Your answers are better than our prayers. Receive them all for the sake of Your Son, Jesus, our Lord.
People: Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give + you peace.
C: Amen.
FAREWELL TO ALLELUIA
Leader: Today marks the end of the Epiphany season, and in a few days we begin Lent on Ash Wednesday. It is traditional to mute our joy during Lent by not singing Alleliuas. We say our “farewell to Alleluia” as we sing the final hymn.
