Or just read on……
Dear Peace family,
We all need a little wisdom from time to time. The complexities of everyday life overwhelm us. A decision that must be made causes worry and confusion. In these moments, it helps to have resources to guide us along our way.
I’ve found comic strips to be a good source for gleaning wisdom. Here are some wise words spoken by the characters of Peanuts:
Charlie Brown: “In the book of life, the answers aren’t in the back.”
Snoopy: “There’s no sense in doing a lot of barking if you really don’t have anything to say.”
Linus: “Life is like a ten-speed bicycle……some of us have gears we never use.”
The relationships we have are also excellent resources for gaining wisdom. Be sure to take advantage of the friendships available at Peace. There are people in our Peace family who have great skill in handling grief and loss. There are couples who have much to share about what it takes to have a healthy marriage. There are many people who have navigated the tough transitions that come in life and are open to share. I personally have grown from the wisdom shared to me by the members of the Peace family.
God’s Word is also a source of wisdom. God’s Word gives us a picture of what healthy living looks like. It provides important detail about character and virtue.
The most obvious place to find wisdom in the Bible is in the book of Proverbs. Although the Book of Proverbs has rarely been used in worship, it has been used richly in the devotional lives of Christians for many centuries. In the month of June we will be bringing important passages and topics from Proverbs into our worship services. To best prepare for these readings and messages, here is a listing of what we will be covering in June:
June 3 Proverbs 3:1-12 “Wisdom Training”
June 10 Proverbs 23:17-18 “Guarding Against Envy”
June 17 Proverbs 17:17 and 18:24 “Friendship”
June 24 Proverbs 11:12-13 “Repairing Relationships”
Thank you for sharing your experiences and wisdom with me and the family of Peace. God has blessed each one of us with unique life experiences and circumstances. We truly have much to learn from one another and God’s Word.
In Jesus,
Pastor J
Prayer for Summer
Father, Creator of all, thank you for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight.
Thank you for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank you for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for you.
Amen

Summer Activities!
Keeping our relationships strong during our vacation holiday months has been on the minds of many these past few months. How do we keep our bonds strong? The summer activities are one of many ways we could do this. As you plan for your summer, plan on joining us for one of the following.
- Tables of Peace – Times and Dates to be determined by the individual group. Please contact Kay Glathar with questions
- Pieces by Peace – 10:00 AM all are invited who would like to be involved in a small project would love to come in on every second Monday of the month and hone a new craft…or assist those who are piecing together a craft. A fun time for everyone!
- Men @ Imagine – 7:00 AM – every Thursday morning. For all men! Meet at Imagine Coffee on Philomath Blvd and enjoy some hot or cold beverages and conversation.
- Eat, Chat, Pray – 7:00 AM – Every Wednesday morning. Ladies, come and do exactly what the group is called. Have a snack, chat about life and pray for our family, friends, church, and world.
- Outdoor Worship – June 17 and July 22 – 10:00 AM. Enjoy service in God’s creation! Indoor seating will be available.
- Church in the Park – August 26 – 10:00 AM in Philomath Park. Area churches gather together and praise the name of our Lord. Don’t miss this outdoor worship followed by lunch.
- Youth Ministry BBQ – Friday, July 13 – 5:00 PM here at Peace. This get together is for the youngsters in our church to strengthen their bonds.
Narthex Library
The library is coming along. There are books from our Bible studies that might be worth having a second look at. Do you know someone who needs a Bible? We have some on the top shelf that do not need to be returned.
There is a series of booklets on grieving, a couple Guidepost magazines, and Mysterious Ways periodical. “The Power of Positive Thinking” is there – where would we be without that? A series called “Joshua” by Joseph Girzone that is very good, and more.
I hope you will look over the selections and will find something that speaks to you.
Knowing the churches in our Circuit –
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Albany
Attendance at our adult Sunday School class has increased from 15 to 22 people during the month of April. The reason for the increase in attendance is that we are reviewing the new 2017 version of Luther’s Small Catechism. Copies of the new version were ordered for each student. The new version includes new sections including a “Central Thought” and “Connections and Applications” that relates Scripture to important issues in today’s culture. Three people are attending with the goal of being confirmed upon completion of the review.
April 27th was a joyous occasion for 10-year-old Taylour Veith. That afternoon Taylour was baptized in a private Rite of Baptism with her parents Don and Birgit Veith standing in for her godparents who live on the East Coast. The Veith’s began attending Immanuel earlier in the month. We welcome the Veith family to Immanuel and Taylour to the family of God.
On May 6th Deacon Larry read a letter he received from the Chair of the Synod Colloquy Committee announcing that his application for ordination had been accepted and that his interview with the Regional Colloquy Committee will be August 6th. A list of six different areas to be covered in that interview was included in the letter. Pending completion of any additional work assigned Larry may be certified for ordination as an SMP (Single Ministry Pastor) as opposed to a General Ministry Pastor who has graduated from Seminary. Larry has served Immanuel, Albany since November 2013.

Happy May Peace Family!
Greetings Peace Family! I will be brief because we have a lot of things going on for the summer here at Peace. Last month I talked about thinking that I needed a new routine for my retirement. I thought about that and prayed about it and I believe God has other plans. You see, with my personality type, I don’t “do” spontaneous very well. (I tend to “plan” my spontaneity) So I have decided that instead of a new routine, God is giving me a chance to learn to be flexible and available to make the connections that He wants me to make. I believe He will guide me to participate in the opportunities that God has for me. Another reason to be still and listen for Him to speak to me.
Psalm 46:10 says: Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
…to be continued…Blessings Peace Family
Youth Room
The “Old Kitchen” will soon be the “New Youth Room.” The youth, with parental guidance, will begin demolition on the room in June. Please note there will be no storage space in there until construction is complete. We are aware of the storage shortage and are trying to be sure each thing in that room finds a new home. Please be patient with us as we make this an awesome hangout for our youth!
Men’s Breakfast
By Oscar Gutbrod
Oh my! It is your last chance to join us for a “Men ONLY” fellowship and Bible study time. The first Saturday in June (June 2) will mark our final gathering for the summer. BUT…we will start up again in October! (Be sure and mark your calendars!) Come on in for some coffee by 8:00 AM and stay for breakfast, served at 8:30 AM. Open to all men, all ages and stages of life. Call Oscar Gutbrod 541-231-3954 if you have any questions. We are always looking for a few brave men to help with cooking and serving, you don’t have to be good at it, just willing to participate. Everyone will pitch in to clean-up
Ladies Guild
Peace Lutheran Church Ladies Guild’s next meeting will be on June 7 at 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. This June meeting marks the beginning of summer break for the ladies. The meeting rotation will begin again in October and continue the first Thursday of each month until we reach summer again!
