Peace Lutheran Church
We welcome you in the name of the Lord Jesus. We are honored with your presence. If you do not have a church home, you are invited to join us regularly. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Jeremy Lucke or one of the Ushers as you leave today and sign the guest book in the entryway. We continue to observe the guidelines for health safety. If you have any questions, please see an usher. Everyone is welcome.
The ringing of the bell and the lighting of the Christ candle mark the beginning of our service and a time for quiet meditation, prayer and inward reflection as we begin our worship.
Children are welcome at our worship services. If you prefer, Peace Lutheran has a playroom equipped for children three years old and younger. The room is unstaffed and can be accessed in the fellowship hall where the service is also being live streamed for your convenience and enjoyment.
Holy Communion is celebrated every first and third Sunday and will follow the order of service in the bulletin. If you are a baptized Christian and share our faith in Jesus as Savior and have been instructed in the meaning and use of the Lord’s Supper, you are invited to partake. We have pre-wrapped communion wine or juice and wafers. We also have gluten-free wafers available. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, ask the server. May the body and blood of Jesus, present in the bread and wine, be a blessing to you.
There are times during the service when you will be asked to stand if you are able. Please feel free to remain seated if standing is difficult.
Offering. Peace Lutheran Church understands and teaches that Offerings are voluntary and to be from the heart. Whether we give or do not give does not determine our salvation. Whether we give much or little does not determine our standing before God. Sharing an Offering is an opportunity to quietly practice generosity with our neighbors. Offerings may be placed in the plates by the doors as we exit the sanctuary.

AS WE GATHER… What do you do when you arrive at church? Many people attend to the tasks associated with the beginning of the service, looking at the bulletin they have received or checking out what the opening hymn will be. There is blessing to be found also in looking around us and acknowledging those gathered with us. Each of us singularly special to God, and, joined together, we become the “people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand (Psalm 95:7). There is no more special place to be than in the flock of God.

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only one foundation
We believe we believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark You help us see
There is only one salvation
We believe we believe
Chorus: We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again
(We believe)
So let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
In our weakness and temptations
We believe we believe
Chorus
Let the lost be found and the dead be raised
In the here and now let love invade
Let the church live loud our God will save
We believe we believe
And the gates of hell will not prevail
For the pow’r of God has torn the veil
Now we know Your love will never fail
We believe we believe
Chorus
He’s coming back again
He’s coming back again
We believe we believe
RINGING OF THE BELL
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the +Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
PRAYER OF CONFIDENCE Psalm 23
Leader: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
People: He makes me to lie down in green pastures:
Leader: He leads me beside the still waters.
People: He restores my soul:
Leader: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
People: Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
Leader: As sheep who have wandered from the Shepherd, we all have turned from the Lord in our disobedience to His commands.
People: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Leader: Confident in the pursuit of our Shepherd, Jesus, for those who wander from Him, let us confess our sins to God our Father.
A time for silent reflection upon God’s Word and personal prayers of confession
Leader: Together, we pray:
People: Good Shepherd, we are You wandering people. We need You. We need Your love. We need Your forgiveness. We need Your pursuit of us all. Guide us back into the fold of Your care that we be cleansed of our sins. Create in us hearts to worship You in truth and follow Your Word, which alone gives us life. Amen.
Leader: In the mercy of almighty God, we are redeemed by Jesus Christ. In Him, our Good Shepherd, who laid down His life for us all, we are fully and freely forgiven. Receive this forgiveness today as you, like wandering sheep, are drawn back into His rescuing mercury. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
SONG OF CONFIDENCE “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
by: Robert Robinson & Asahel Nettleton; Public Domain
Come, thou fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
While the hope of endless glory
fills my heart with joy and love,
Teach me ever to adore Thee,
may I still thy goodness prove.
.
Here I raise my Ebenezer,
hither by thy help I’m come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
.
O to grace how great a debtor,
daily I’m constrained to be;
Let that grace now like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.
Leader: Let us pray. Lord Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd, without whom nothing is secure. Rescue and preserve us that we may not be lost forever but follow You, rejoicing in the way that leads to eternal life; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
OLD TESTAMENT I Samuel 22:1-2 and II Samuel 23:13-17
David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.
2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.
13 And three of the thirty chief men went down and came about harvest time to David at the cave of Adullam, when a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then at Bethlehem.
15 And David said longingly, “Oh, that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!”
6 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it. He poured it out to the Lord
17 and said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Heaven’s joy will be great when sinners repent.
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.
2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” 3 So he told them this parable:
4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’
7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?
9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’
10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You O Christ.
SERMON HYMN “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”
By: Oliver Holden; Arr. Roger Nachtway; Words: Public DomainMusic: Public Domain
All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all.
.
Crown him, ye morning stars of light
Who fixed this earthly ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
And crown him Lord of all.
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
And crown him Lord of all.
.
O seed of Israel’s chosen race
Now ransomed from the fall,
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all.
.
Hail him, you heirs of David’s line,
Whom David Lord did call–
The God incarnate, man divine—
And crown him Lord of all.
The God incarnate, man divine—
And crown him Lord of all.
SERMON
“David and His Friends”
People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again,
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The Christian Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body
And the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Based on Ezekiel 34
Leader: The Lord says through His prophet Ezekiel: “I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak.”
Confident in the care of our faithful Shepherd, let us bring our thanksgivings, requests, and intercessions before our Father’s throne of grace.
Faithful Shepherd, You are so good to us. Even when we stray from Your presence through disobedience to Your commands, You bring us back into Your presence through the good news that we have received in this time of worship.
People: Grant that we treasure all we possess in the Gospel of Christ.
Leader: Guiding Shepherd, You lead us with Your mercy that we may dwell in Your presence forever. Salvation is found solely in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Enable us to bring the good news of His life, death, and resurrection to all souls for whom He offered His life.
People: Enable us to open our lips and declare Your wonders to the world.
Leader: Loving Shepherd, You care for all You have made, for all the world is Yours. Grant that those who are broken in heart, mind, and spirit find refreshment in Your presence. Open our eyes to the needs of our neighbors, for in them we see You.
People: Give us hearts to serve others with the mercy You give to us all.
Leader: Healing Shepherd, You bind up the wounds of those who suffer in both soul and body [Today we lift up before You…] Whatever the need and whatever the circumstance, draw Your sheep into the fold of Your care that they receive the healing You desire from them.
People: Open our eyes to see Your healing hand at work.
Leader: As sheep who trust in their faithful Shepherd, we bring these prayers, along with all the unspoken prayers of our hearts, before You.
People: In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen
Leader: As our Shepherd, our Savior will lead us as we walk with Him in faith.
People: Following our Shepherd every day, let us share His mercy with all we meet.
Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you…

Chorus: Do Lord, O do, Lord,
O do remember me!
Do Lord, O do, Lord,
O do remember me!
Do Lord, O do, Lord,
O do remember me!
Look away beyond the blue.
You’re my light and my salvation,
I won’t be afraid!
You’re the stronghold of my life,
by You all things were made.
Foes attack me, hassle me,
but I will never fade,
For I move in the
strength of the Lord.
Chorus
Though a host encamp against me,
I will never fear!
Even though a war surrounds me,
You are always near.
One thing I have asked of you
that I will seek for sure
Is to live in the
house of the Lord.
Chorus
You will hide me in Your shelter
in the day of strife;
You’ll conceal me in Your tent
or set me on the height.
Now my head is lifted up above
the storms of night,
So I’ll sing to the
name of the Lord.
Chorus
Glory be to God the Father
and to God the Son;
Glory be to God the Spirit,
ever Three in one.
As it was in the beginning,
till our race is won
We can live in the
light of the Lord.
Chorus
Leader: Go in Peace. Serve the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!
